Very large grocery store that probably has whatever you need in stock! I’d heard of the cult-like adoration people have for H-E-B so I was very interested to check it out when they started opening in North TX.
The place is massive; I find it a little overwhelming to be honest. This is not my go-to if I need to quickly run in and grab an item for dinner. The lines are super long (perhaps because it’s still new and a novelty in the area) and it can be hard to find parking. But when I need to do a proper shop to stock up my pantry, I do enjoy coming here.
I’ve found that late at night tends to be not as crowded, but then you have to deal with being there as employees are driving around pallets of product and stocking shelves, which presents its own set of challenges.
Overall it’s a nice place to shop and I can see why people love it. There’s an expansive selection of items, including a deli, sushi area, tons of ready meals, florist, fresh fish and meats, giant produce section, fresh bakery items…you name it, it likely exists here. There’s even a BBQ restaurant! They have paper coupons posted near items on sale in store as well as an app that offers additional exclusive savings.
You can order for curbside pickup (free at specific times, or pay a fee to pick up at peak times) and they offer delivery for a fee as well. I tried curbside on a Friday evening this week and they were super backed up, hence the reason for one star off for my particular experience. Employees came out twice to tell me the wait would be longer, I’m not sure what was going on but it makes me hesitant to try it again as I ended up waiting about 25 minutes past my scheduled pickup time. Not a huge deal, but with two antsy toddlers in the car I prefer to be in and out quickly which is why I’d selected pickup in the first place.
Speaking of kids, I will say a bonus I enjoy at this store is they have double seat shopping carts. Both my kids still need to be in a cart when we shop and this makes it possible for me to bring them on my own and not need my husband to push a kid in a second cart. This is truly a valuable...
Read moreShopping at H-E-B is truly one of the highlights of my weekly routine. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with bright, clean aisles and an atmosphere that makes grocery shopping feel more like a treat than a chore. The produce is always fresh, vibrant, and well-stocked—it’s easy to tell that quality is a top priority. Whether I’m looking for everyday staples or something a little more special, H-E-B consistently delivers top-tier products at unbeatable prices. As someone who recently moved from New Jersey, I have to say—H-E-B is in a league of its own. It reminds me a bit of Wegmans in terms of variety, but with better prices, more options, and a much more customer-friendly vibe. It’s nothing like the ShopRites or other East Coast chains where spoiled goods and lackluster service were far too common.
One of my absolute favorite things about H-E-B is their fresh flour tortillas—handmade right there in the store. They are, without exaggeration, out of this world. Soft, warm, and full of flavor, they make every meal taste like it came straight from a homemade kitchen. Pair that with their impressive meat department, which offers some of the best cuts and freshest selections in town, and you’ve got a store that truly sets itself apart. Beyond groceries, H-E-B also has something for everyone—houseware favorites, toiletries, hair supplies, toys, and so much more. It’s the kind of store where you can run in for milk and come out with everything you didn’t know you needed!
If I had to name one downside, it’s simply that the secret is out—H-E-B is that good, and the store can get quite crowded, especially during peak hours. The only way to avoid the hustle is to go right when the doors open, but even then, it’s a pleasant experience thanks to the well-organized layout and helpful staff. From quality products to excellent prices and a truly unbeatable selection, H-E-B has completely won me over. I absolutely love this store and can’t imagine shopping anywhere else now that I’ve experienced the best Texas...
Read moreWould've been 5 stars if not for the self checkout crew! I started self checking out and placing things in the bagging area. Mind you I hadn't made any effort to take stuff out of the bagging area. I turned around and started setting up my reusable bags, and one of the staff members approaches and starts going off (in a lecturing kind of tone) about how I can't put stuff in my cart because of the weights and that she has to scan her finger print each time I do (despite me not doing anything at this point to warrant this). Great, noted, I explained to her everything was still on the weights in the bagging area, that if she just looks at the screen and looks at what's in the bagging area the items are all there, and that the system glitching wasn't due to me putting anything in my bags. She told me to scan everything before putting it in my bags. I had a lot of stuff but fine, whatever I'll scan everything before putting it in my personal bags. Then, and this is what really soured the experience for me, as I continue scanning stuff and leaving them in the bagging area, ANOTHER staff member comes by and starts AGAIN lecturing me that I cannot leave so many items in the bagging area and that I need to start putting them in my bags. I explained to her that I was told not long ago by another staff member to not do that. She disregarded it and told me again to just put the stuff in my bags. Oh my god OKAY. THAT WAS THE PLAN. I was going to do that if not for the first lady who came by. I hate how both times these corrections were geared towards me when it seems that there's a bigger issue at play with staff sticking to a singular standard amongst themselves? Maybe train your staff better instead of immediately assuming the customer is in the wrong? How do they not realize the inappropriateness of this interaction? I work in customer service myself and I found it jarring coming from a similar position. It was my first time at this store and after this I just wanted to get my damn groceries...
