Shin-Sen-Gumi Robata & Yakitori - Fountain Valley — Restaurant in Fountain Valley

This restaurant has always been a favorite of mine! However, during our recent visit, we noticed some changes.

The green tea flavor in the hot tea we ordered was hardly noticeable. While the Asparagus wrapped with Pork Belly was decent, it leaned towards the salty side.

On the bright side, the Cherry Tomato wrapped with Bacon was a standout favorite, grilled to perfection, and the Quail’s Egg wrapped with Bacon was another enjoyable option.

Unfortunately, the Onigiri lacked a generous amount of salmon, and the Goma Spinach, while still delicious, came in a smaller portion size. The beef skewers were tender but didn’t quite meet our expectations from previous experiences.

The Creme brûlée was also a letdown, now served in a small tin foil container instead of a ceramic bowl.

I loved this place and came regularly. The food is great, and the chef with the tats and cap is truly awesome. We always hope he will cook!

Sadly, the last visit, we signed up on your waitlist, along with 2 others. Later, family members of the staff (likely sous chef) showed up and got seated before us as we stood outside in the cold. It is the crappiest thing you guys can do, to assume precence over other people, why have a queue system if you let people cut it, really pisses me off, incredibly void of any etiquette, certainly not japanese. We work 16h a day and didn't eat since 8am, we had to return to work after the small treat that would have been the trip to...

Gimmicky!!! I would rather this place concentrate on there product more then yell at each other in Japanese. The place could really be good if they had better choice of noodles. No soba noodles and a very confusing way to order. The pan fried dumplings were tiny, dry and lacking flavor ( skip). Broth was marginal at best. Noodles were a disappointed and place is very trendy. Coming fresh out of Tokyo just hours ago I was in the mood for another round of ramen but it wasn't going to happen here. Sure, probably the best place in town, but they have a lot to learn.
