Background: Needed someone to cater our daughter's wedding. Family coming in wanted BBQ. We were unfamiliar with the restaurants in Fredericksburg so we began our search. Finding David: What we loved by looking at his website was the many positive reviews, but that he was also personally responding and seemed genuinely invested and engaged in what people were saying. Knowing you can't please everyone, he at least wants to know and try to engage his customers. We scheduled time to meet and he shared samples of his amazing food. This wasn't a "please place your order and we'll put you on the list..." This was David sitting across from us, discussing what we liked and wanted, and making a plan. The Wedding Day: David and his staff took care of everything. We didn't worry about a thing! They were on-time, food was just as we ordered and very good (lots of compliments), his team was full of smiling faces and so kind always, and David was the first person handing our guests their plates and serving the food. Bottomline: Food is amazing. This owner cares about his customers and is proud of his business, as he should be. He hires warm, friendly staff. The prices are very reasonable. We are forever fans and will visit this restaurant each time we are in town. Thank you, David, for being exactly who we needed and providing exactly what our family expected. If you need a caterer for 100+ or just a good meal on your way down Main Street -- look no further than...
Read moreUpdated June 2022, different location, 9 years later: visited this place mid-afternoon and midweek. There were about 10-12 people there. Building is small inside and rustic with wooden floors. There's very limited on-site parking so park on the street. Prices were reasonable. I ordered brisket sandwich ($7.75) with a drink for $9.75 or with one choice of sides. I would have preferred the sandwich to be a little bit bigger. There was nothing special about this sandwich to differentiate it from any of the many others out there. Two small paper thimble sized cups held a smidgen of chopped onions and 3 pickle slices. There was a selection of commercial barbecue sauces along with one homemade sauce which wasn't too bad actually. An extensive menu was posted along with daily specials. They do offer takeout and serve breakfast. Overall, about an average sandwich which was moist but would have preferred it to be bigger. Your mileage may vary...
Visited Saturday afternoon 2013 , only a handful of folks. Ordered three meat meal which was dried out and not hot. Companion had pork loin special which was again lukewarm and dried out neither of the two meals had any taste. Two sides of green beans and barbecue beans we're at best so so. Perhaps their sandwiches would have been better. I would rather prefer the barbecue in Llano at Inmans which is the same price and unrestricted amts and better...
Read moreI had high hopes for good central Texas bbq. I was left disappointed. The menu has your standard fair and they do offer breakfast. I ordered the two meat plate with moist brisket, sausage, potato salad, and green beans. The first red flag went up when the person who took my ordered asked me what I meant by "moist" brisket. He asked if I meant "fatty" brisket... To which I said yes. The second red flag went up when I saw a bottle of "sweet baby Ray's BBQ sauce" next to the homemade sauce. Why would a bbq restaurant put out a bottled sauce to compete with their own sauce? The third red flag went up when my plate arrived. The small portion of fatty brisket could have fit in the palm of my hand. It had no smoky flavor and no smoke ring. It looked like it had been cooked in a crock pot. The sausage was sliced into paper thin slices and was very dry. The potato salad was bland and needed salt. The green been on my plate were swimming in juice, which spilled into the potato salad. If you are going to serve green beans, please drain them before putting them on the plate.
In conclusion, I hope David's figures out how to make better Texas BBQ. Until then, I would pick...
