La Dolce Bakery — Restaurant in Freehold Township

I recently bought a rum birthday cake from La Dolce Bakery. First I would like to say I called at least 20 bakery's in Monmouth and ocean county asking if they could do a rum cake. All places that claimed they do custom cakes and as well as wedding cakes, but did not know how or couldn't do a standard Italian rum cake. Never heard of La Dolce Bakery, but a friend told me to give them a try. I called. The woman who picked up the phone was extremely polite and knowledgeable. She said no problem she could do a rum birthday cake, what a relief. The day I picked up the cake was the first time I was in the bakery. They had so many yummy pastries, cookies,bread, desserts. You name it. That night my father inlaw who the birthday cake was meant for. Has had rum cake since he was little from so many Italian bakeries. A place in Staten island that claims to have the best rum cake. Well this is false. He took 1 bite and was hooked. Most delicious rum cake he has ever had. Other family members who never had rum cake, were like this is the best cake I've ever had. Coming from my family, that's a lot. I can't say more about how happy I was. Ordered a custom cake from La Dolce Bakety in Freehold and delivered everything asked for on my end to them before the event. The owner, Elaine, said they would make a Happy Birthday sign out of a cookie to top the cake and come day of the event, I get to the restaurant at 6pm where they delivered it an no cookie, no “Happy Birthday” writing, nada. The cake was blank and I had a room full of 40 people just looking at me. Called the bakery and even spoke to the owner telling them they had until maybe 8:30pm to make this right (come up with a sign, bring a piping bag and write “happy birthday” on the top or something). She said she would call me back, but never did. Not even the next day to apologize or offer a store credit or partial refund…as if it never happened. And on top of it, the guest of honor hated their raspberry buttercream filling, but it’s the service (or lack there of that I would like to focus this review on). Poor decisions and choices on their part in my honest opinion. I would not recommend or use them again. Best of luck to them, but I’ll try somewhere...

I was trying to order a cake for my friend's birthday which is this Sunday. I first want to a bakery closer to my house, when you order a cake from them la Dolce makes the cake for them. I picked out a cake I liked and asked if they can make it on a 12inch square cake was told 120. I then decided to call la Dolce to order the cake. Was told they might be able to do the cake in a 10 inch round was told they can do it for the price of $60 was told to call back the next day between the hours of 9 to 12 because the woman that does the cakes wasn't there but will be the next day. So I called the next day at 9 was told to call back at 10 because she was the only one in the store and there was a line of customers out the door. Called back at 10 where she then told me 65 to do the 10 inch round and then told me the final price would be almost $90. She then told me that she didn't have the time to talk to me about other options or even take my order because it was st Joseph. Why tell me to call back the next day when you had to know that the following day was...
