This was a place we have been wanting to try because of the Shanghai rice cakes they sell. We went yesterday soon after they opened for dinner (5:30pm). We ordered the Wonton veggie & pork (soup) even though it did not say it was soup nor was it listed under the soups. It is listed under dim sum. It was ok but broth lacked salt. I am one who has never added salt to a meal/dish at a restaurant but this needed it. Once you added salt / soy sauce it was much improved. Wontons were tasty. We also ordered the Shanghai style rice w veggies & salted pork. This was tasty & you got some nice crispy bits of rice. Then the green onion pancakes. Yummy but also lacked salt/seasoning. Fried a little more than others but still tasty after you sprinkled a bit of salt on it. The Shanghai pork & veggie rice cakes was delicious! The waitress asked if we wanted it with soy sauce & we said yes. Don't know how it would've been w/o the soy sauce. Finally, we got the Shanghai style sweet & sour pork ribs. These were gooey with either honey or syrup, but surprisingly not too sweet. They did need a touch more sour... either vinegar/lemon juice to make them super yummy. Do be careful when eating as you can crack a tooth on a bone. They are chopped up so much that some of the bones are almost as small as a tooth. Service was friendly & prompt. Although the waitress did tell us we were ordering too much when we kept adding things! Lol! My mom was a little offended but I thought it was funny. I don't think she was trying to be rude, I think she just wanted to let us know (in her own way) it was going to be a lot of food for 3 people...& it was but we don't mind left overs! We just wanted to try as much as we could since the place is bit outta the way for us. Overall good food. I would go back, don't know if my parents would make the 20 - 30min w/o traffic...
Read morePlace small. Lots of diners. Food was good. White fish in wine sauce was a tad too salty. We did not order rice, maybe with it would not have been too salty. I asked the server if my mom, 95 years old & I can sit further in at a table of the same size, not right by the door, but she would not accommodate. I did not speak Mandarin, so I did not bother to argue. Then my mom wanted to give some feedback on the flavor of one of the dish, but who looks like the owner did kit show any interest in hearing it. So the food tasted good, but service is not. It was out of our way to eat there, so will not make the extra effort to come...
Read moreMy family and I really like coming here on a regular basis, and it's finally time to post a review (sometimes I get take-out here too). The staff is warm and friendly, but more importantly, the food is tasty and authentic too. We like the eggplant dish, the special sweet-and-sour fish, the green bean dish, and their Shanghai fried rice dish. My son likes their Shanghai noodle dish. Shanghai Flavor also has a dessert that has mochi balls with flower petals in them in a soup with delicately fermented rice. You can always come here and know that you're going to get good food (except on Mondays when they...
