Worth every second of the 500 yard detour off McKinley. I'm old enough to be jaded. Sometimes your just hungry, and want to pass on the corporatist reminder that your hunger is a well curated quality versus profits math equation at Ernst and Young.
If you just want a great quality sandwich at a price that shows respect for how hard you work for your money, stop here now.
I'm a Subway refugee with no home. I've wandered to Deli Delicious, lured by their fries and simple menu system with only...37 options. Then Jersey Mike's arrived in Fresno and offered even better quality sandwiches at an even more inflated price. I felt like giving up. Soon I'd be ordering my turkey on wheat along side the requisite loan application.
Lets face it, being a simple, classic sandwich consumer in 2020 is tough. Convenience is a factor, sure, but I've earned a Ph.D in sandwich economics while observing quality decline and prices go up. I thought Deli Delicious resolved the debate, but Jersey Mike's appeared and offered the quality Subway and Deli Delicious used to possess. The result? I'm paying $15 for a lunch at Jersey Mikes, and I feel robbed every single time.
I stumbled upon the Sandwich Shoppe by accident. Maybe I was distracted, but I never saw the million dollar logo and franchisee approved ads on tv before I came in and ordered a sandwich. Is this what Jersey Mike's could have been, but for their Madison Avenue obsession with shameless marketing (no offense to Jersey Mike's and their thick wax paper)?!
I've attached a photo of my meal. Long after I ate it. It was amazing. Good portions of meat without the asteriks and hidden fees like ahem...you know who...After all, how can you trust a review if they had enough restraint to filter their meal through a photo booth before eating?
Amazing place. Amazing owners. Amazing prices. Worth the 5 second detour...
Read moreI gave this place a try today for the first time and was utterly disappointed in the food. The customer service was great, though. The male owner was friendly and greeted me as I walked in and informed me of how long it would take for my order after it was placed. The dining area had plenty of tables and chairs, plainly decorated, truly a small mom and pop's. The location of the shop is off of Fine Street andMcKinley, but in the middle of businesses and parking was not convenient. I ordered a bbq pork and a grilled pork vietnamese sandwich and grilled pork vietnames springrolls. Both types of meat were super fatty, it was gross, the meat was also cold and not edible because of all the fat. The baguette was warm and good, not too hard but I was only able to eat a few bites of the bbq pork sandwich and threw it all up because of all the fat. There was also too much mayo. The grilled pork was worse. Hubs said the meat was fatty too and smelled bad, and he threw up after a few bites, too. I had to take the meat out of the Springrolls and eat the veggies only after my husband told me the meat smelled. I also ordered a matcha green tea with boba, which was good but was filled 90 percent with ice. This was my first experience with this place, and it was bad. First and last time here. I did not take pictures because I tossed out the sandwiches first before thinking of taking pictures and was too grossed out...
Read moreThe sandwich shoppe is small and clean. Minimal feel but upfront view of their kitchen where they prepared my sandwich. This place has easily become my number one spot for Banh Mi. Fresh, clean, tasting ingredients.
The owner even said their bread is sourced from a local bakery and all ingredients are fresh. I would highly recommend this if you're looking for a fresh sandwich.
Sandwiches we got were the #3 Chard Siu Pork. And #5 Combo.
The Chard Siu is an absolute banger. The Combo was good. But I would only recommend that if you know you are expecting because of the types of meats used; texture may not be...
