We are new to the DFW area and were looking for an affordable valentine weekend date night place. Saw this restaurant and decided to try it out, as we love Thai food and frequently ate it when living in Seattle. The layout of the establishment is open and relaxing, with lots of true Thai decor, clean floors, walls and seating. The bathroom looks well kept and updated.
The hostess and waiting staff made us feel welcome, and did not hesitate to check on us to see if we like our food or need a refill. We had a valentine special peanut noodle dish and chicken dumplings as starters. You can tell that everything is made from scratch and with love. Plating was very appealing as well. My husband got garlic pork, while I got Khao Soi with chicken.
We both found our food to be very flavorful, my broth was rich and lots of flavor (although my 4 level spice was more of a 2.5 - 3 level). My husband's pork had broccoli with it, and i am guilty of stealing most of it as it was the best cooked broccoli I have ever had - next time I will have to order a side of it for myself.
For dessert we ordered mango sticky rice, and it did not disappoint. Aromatic coconut rice paired with perfectly ripe sweet mango. I have worked in the produce buying industry, and i know good fruit and vegetables when I see and taste them!
When we asked for the rest of my Khao Soi to be packed to go, my husband mentioned to the waitress that it was less spicy than I expected but still delicious. The waitress packed my food up and brought out little cups of their chili sauce and chili oil to pack with me.
I had my Khao Soi for breakfast the next day with the sauce and oil, just as delicious as when it was fresh! Will definitely be back to try...
Read moreLunch portion which is $10 instead of $13 did not include broccoli. They wanted $2 to add broccoli which makes it only $1 less than the dinner portion. When my mom was will arrived her white rice was very cold. She began eating her chicken until the waitress came back. Asked for a small bowl of hot rice... And they insisted they had to take back her entire plate and heat it up. How gross is that. Also she wanted to eat the chicken wallet was still somewhat warm. They asked if we wanted to buy another rice. Just finally had to let it go. When the gentleman came up after we paid, he explained that they throw away the old rice off the plate and add new rice. Could they just not have thrown it away after she was through? Did they really think we were trying to get $1 worth of free extra rice when they already portioned out the broccoli from a meal to save pennies?? Additionally I've asked for some extra sauce on the side for my meal. Not only that they charge $3 for the sauce, $1.50 for brown rice... But mention none of that until the bill came. They made no attempt to adjust the bill. My $13 dinner turned into $17.50. I did not touch the extra sauce (not did I need it). I will not be...
Read moreService is fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. As a strict vegan, it's the food that's the issue. I've eaten at dozens upon dozens of Thai restaurants, including many super authentic “hole on the wall” type places. This is the first one in all my years that is almost aggressively anti-vegetarian and anti-vegan. Everything except for the rice and a couple of the appetizers have fish oil in it, and they adamantly refuse to substitute or adjust to any request, claiming it's the only authentic way to do it.
Our fantastic waitress was super apologetic, saying they have tried many many many times to try and convince the chef to rethink her stance, but its a hard no. We ended up having several rice orders; it was alright, but a bit bland relative to other Thai fried rice I've enjoyed.
In short, if you're vegetarian or vegan and expect this restaurant to be as accommodating as almost every other Thai restaurant in the world - don't go here. If you're not vegetarian or vegan, I can't recommend the rice for the price, but perhaps the...
