Akashiro Nikkei Sushi brings a unique and flavorful fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines to the table, offering a dining experience that celebrates the best of both cultures. The carefully crafted dishes highlight an expert balance of flavors, seamlessly blending the vibrant, citrusy notes of Peruvian ingredients with the delicate precision of Japanese culinary techniques. From the classic Peruvian ceviche, bursting with fresh, zesty flavors, to the indulgent scallop and uni hand roll, each bite is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The salmon roll, enhanced by a bold and tangy chimichurri sauce, further showcases the creative synergy of these two culinary worlds. Akashiro Nikkei Sushi offers a memorable gastronomic journey for adventurous food lovers and fusion cuisine enthusiasts alike.

My friend wanted to try this place. We came here to celebrate our birthdays. His, his gf and my birthday ate in August. He has been eyeing this place for awhile. The decor inside is very elegant and has a nice japanese sushi restaurant feel. We ordered a few appetizers and all of the Nikkei Sushi to try. We also ordered the tuna, scallops and uni hand roll. The chutoro maki roll, the veggie roll and one other roll but I forget the name. I wasn't a fan of the fried Yuca as it really didn't have much flavor and very little sauce came with it. The chutoro maki roll was very delicious. The hand rolls were very delicious too. The nikkei sushi was my favorite as it reminded me of the sushi I ate while in Japan. I highly recommend this spot but it is a but pricey lol

I had an amazing experience at Akashiro Nikkei Sushi! The fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavors is a game-changer. I started with the Peruvian ceviche, and it was absolutely fresh and flavorful—perfect balance of tangy and zesty. The Parmesan scallops were a standout too, creamy with a crispy edge. The yellowtail was so fresh, and the Pulpo Olivo (octopus with olive oil) was just divine! Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The combination of Japanese precision with bold Peruvian influences made every bite memorable. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re into unique and delicious fusion cuisine!

Fantastic experience!

I heard about this place from a friend and has been in my queue for a while. On a whim, we stopped on by before going to a movie. Located in Downtown Fullerton, Akashiro is on the corner of Harbor and Chapman. There is an adjacent parking structure that had a good amount of parking on the Sunday we went.

We also were lucky that on this Sunday, it wasn't too hard to nab a reservation online earlier in the day.

Coming into Akashiro - I loved the design of the restaurant. It had large artwork on one side drawn into the walls while the other side had neat unique artwork. What you see to the right as you enter are tables while in front is the sushi bar with three chefs.

We sat at the sushi bar in front of Chef Richard who was super kind and helpful. He informed us about the restaurant concept as a Japanese Peruvian sushi joint and his background being from Japan.

We ended up ordering a la carte. We did see two omakase options as well - one that was just focused on nigiri and another one that was a mixture of cooked and sushi items.

Here's what we ordered!

*Peruvian ceviche: Recommended by our chef, we started with the ceviche. Absolutely a delight. Tangy and a bit sour with fresh striped bass. Loved the bits of sweet potato and Peruvian corn *Pulpo Olivo: This was personally my least favorite of the bunch. Still solid and loved seeing this torched in front of us. I was personally hoping for more of a kick from the sauces, but the pulpo itself was pretty good. *Salmon Parmesan: Another excellent dish. Loved the sear and the parmesan butter was so good. *Scallop Truffle: Loved the pop quinoa on here which I thought was a nice touch. Great texture alongside the truffle and scallops. *Chutoro Maki: Super solid specialty roll. Loved the Japanese garlic in particular mixed in here. *Lacuma Souffle: Excellent dessert. Not too sweet. We never had lacuma before which was a welcome treat. Moist sponge cake filled with layers.

I also had the Peruvian beer as a drink which I thought was good and didn't break the bank.

Service was prompt all the way through! Everyone was super nice and friendly.

Can't wait to...

I rarely write reviews, but our experience here was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. We came in as a group of seven, excited to enjoy what we thought would be a high-quality sushi experience—especially given the steep prices. Unfortunately, the customer service was shockingly poor.

Our waitress was extremely rude and inattentive throughout the meal. While we were still eating, she abruptly came over and asked, “Are you all done?”—as if we were being rushed out. Not once were we asked if we wanted dessert or anything else. It felt like they just wanted us to leave.

To make matters worse, they messed up one of our sushi rolls and gave us the wrong one. When they finally brought the correct roll, they still added the wrong one to our bill—without acknowledging their mistake. We had to point it out ourselves.

For a place that charges premium prices, the service was nowhere near what you’d expect. There are plenty of great sushi spots with better food and far better customer service. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values a respectful and pleasant...
