I really like Taco Tuesdays so I eat tacos almost every Tuesday. I have tried tacos from quite a few taco places ranging from Orange County to San Diego over the years. When it comes to tacos, I prefer the traditional Mexican-style with meat, onions, cilantro, and salsa piled high on a corn tortilla over the Americanized versions loaded with lettuce, cheese, and other toppings.
Even though I am not Mexican and have never actually been to Mexico to authentically experience tacos, I still pride myself on knowing what good, flavorful tacos taste like.
Ponchos Tacos is located in a shopping mall in an industrial complex so it's not directly accessible from the main road (State College Blvd) resulting in fewer visitors due to the location in a less crowded shopping mall. When I visited, I was the only customer. Based on the location, it seemed like a place focused more on lunch than dinner business.
The interior atmosphere was nothing fancy, very much a common street restaurant vibe focused on takeout. However, Ponchos Tacos' carne asada tacos were the most delicious I've had in the past few years. The prices are also cheap - Taco Tuesdays are $1.75 per taco. But the taco flavor is unmatched. The beans were also tasty. However, the rice was too salty for my taste.
Overall, if you are in search of a delicious taco in the East Fullerton area, I highly recommend Ponchos Tacos. And when you pick up your order, don't forget to hit the salsa bar next to the counter to load up your tacos with some...
Read moreI've been looking for a reasonably good mexican restaurant in the area since I moved to Placentia. Having started at CSUF recently, it's tough to find quality in the many clones and chains that are normally around. I ended up coming here on a whim with a friend. Upon entering, the room was clean, tables organized, complimentary salsa bar. Overall, reasonable prices, great food, and two awesome deals for college students.
Burrito (chicken, chorizo, or al pastor), drink (canned Coke, Sprite, and a few others.
Three street tacos (chicken, chorizo, or al pastor), drink (same as above), and rice and beans.
Totally worth it! Not too little food, and just enough to make you feel satisfied and...
Read moreThis place was kind of hard to find but was super busy which is always a good sign. Ponchos Tacos also had glowing reviews so why not, right?
We ordered a taco plate with rice and beans. I had chicken and Al pastor tacos which were pretty good. I couldn't tell if they made the tortillas there but for street taco size they only give you one. If you get everything on them that includes grilled peppers which was cool.
Great service at the counter with knowledgeable staff, who were busy in the open kitchen. Salsa bar on the side with lots to pick from. No fountain machine.
Solid joint, I want to go back and try the burritos. That Al pastor was definitely something to...
