I'm not sure why we decided to give this business another try. It's always a disappointment. First, they had the downstairs closed for all tables. So you have to walk up a narrow stairway that's also used by servers running food up and down. It gets very crowded, often. It's so hot upstairs! We were all sweating profusely while trying to enjoy our mediocre dinner. We asked our server if she could turn down the air a little or move our table. She said the owner won't budge on the air temperature, he doesn’t matter how many customers complain.. So back to the stairs.. you have to take them up and down to go to the salad bar. Which was pretty difficult for my two elderly parents. It just doesn't make any sense. If the temperature upstairs is a common complaint and so is the stairway.. why not just close the upstairs, since it's much cooler downstairs AND the salad bar is down there!? Seems like it would solve so many issues! It would also solve the issue of you having to search for your waitress for 20 minutes to get a refill on our drinks. It makes the servers jobs so much harder, too! Running food from the kitchen downstairs, to all of their customers upstairs. They can only carry so much. So literally everyone's food comes out and all different times. My food was completely cold by the time I got the lemons I had asked for. Which, you would think with all of the condiments they give for their dishes, 3 plates of seafood would come with at least ONE lemon wedge. Guess it's not in the budget. What's also not in the budget is good QUALITY food. The seasoned veggies are frozen, not fresh. The rice taste like it came from a cardboard box. My scallops were rubbery and cold by the time I got the lemons that I requested. My husband had the shrimp and beef sticks. Which was mostly veggies. He had maybe 3 small shrimp and 3 small pieces of beef on his sticks. My parents ordered a fried seafood platter. Most of their shrimp was overcooked and rubbery, The only decent thing was the drinks. They were amazing. In the future, we will give any new restaurant in town a try before we ever come back...
Read moreMy wife and two kids ate there based off of the google reviews. I normally don’t leave reviews but felt I needed to. As mentioned in some of these reviews, there was about 30 minute wait. Not a problem as I expected it. We took the first available seats which was the upstairs dining area. Little did we know the AC wasn’t working up there. It worked downstairs but not upstairs. After waiting for 20 minutes to get our drink order in we were literally in a sweat box with about 30 other people. We placed our order after about another 20 minutes. The prices are normal for this type of restaurant at around $20 a plate.
An hour later we got our food. Our $20 seafood platters fit on a salad plate. Very disappointed. The shrimp was over cooked to the point you couldn’t peel it and the grilled shrimp was burnt.
We ate what we could and paid our $100 tab. Had to stop at the Stripes on the way to our room to get a snack.
I gave it two starts instead of 1 because the waitress was doing the best she could in the conditions she was working in. She was so flustered with the heat that she said she was going to quit if she was placed in this area again without AC.
If you are going to run a business, especially on the coast, let the customers know that the AC is down or close that portion of the restaurant down. We would’ve gladly sat outside or chose another area, had we known. I’ve ran a business for 20 years and customer service is key to success. If they normally treat the customers like they did tonight, I’m not sure how they stay in business.
It may have been a bad night, but I would not recommend this place. We were literally soaked with sweat and it was too hot to even eat in there. The Boiling Pot next door is 10x the restaurant with better food, service and...
Read moreSeeing a line consistently at this restaurant, we were excited to try it. This lil restaurant sits by the ocean and has some nice views which is always pleasant. That was as good as it gets for me.
When we arrived, there was no line. The hostess who welcomed us and seated us had a scowl on her face and we felt as if we interrupted something she was busy with. The waitress who waited on us was friendly enough though. Between us, we ordered:
Each dish we were a choice of soup so we tried both:
Gumbo: Served luke warm, this gumbo did not taste like any gumbo I have had. It almost had a canned soup taste with some hot sauce added in. Not very good.
Tortilla: This came with a large amount of huge thick tortilla chips piled in it - not what I am used to with tortilla soup. This was served luke warm as well. The broth had a pleasant flavor but nothing special for sure.
Appetizer -
Oyster Cocktail: Raw oysters and served out of the shell. These were big, fresh, and delicious!
Entrees -
Shrimp Brochette: Bacon wrapped shrimp. The bacon was burnt and the shrimp overcooked. Served with flavorless vegetables. The rice was good. Definitely not worth the price we paid for it.
Small Fried Fish platter: This came with two fairly sized pieces of fried white fish. The batter was light and cooked perfectly, I loved. It was served with a baked potato that was placed upon the butter so I had floating melted butter on my plate and none to put on my potato lol. I thought this dish was over priced for the quality of food I was served. I expected better.
Pros: Raw Oysters
Cons: Gumbo, Shrimp Brochette, over priced for...
