My daughter got food poisoning and we went to the ER. This was Saturday 26 for dinner. I was visiting my daughter in college for the day, and she was in the mood for sushi. She had 2 pieces of the raw salmon on rice, plus a simple tuna roll. We shared the tuna roll. The tuna tasted fine but the salmon was off. Three hours post lunch she was feeling nausea and her gut hurting. 11pm we took an Uber to the ER. It was food poisoning. Because she’d had her home made oatmeal and toast for lunch, we know it’s not the oatmeal. Sushi is our usual tradition but I doubt she will want sushi for a very long time. Me neither. I changed my return home so I could be at the hospital with her for anti nausea IV and hydration flush. Obviously there was much vomit and D (I will spare the reader). She was extremely weak, clammy, and freezing. The next day she felt a bit better post some sleep and due to the IV and cleansing her system, but tired and still a bit nauseated, so slept all day and night. Finally feeling a little better Monday morning though weak, and making her way in the heat to classes. She is a health sciences major with demanding classes, so this is also tough, as she has so much reading homework already.
This is the first and only time she ever got food poisoning. She felt like she was dying. Needless to say, she will never go back to that restaurant again. Her friends are appalled and won’t go there either. I certainly won’t when I visit.
Server was nice. I assume she didn’t touch the food, only carried the plates and she was friendly. I rated low for service because the chefs and all other staff count. I could see one of the Sushi chefs without gloves (I was sitting at the front by the balcony) though the others had gloves. He was finalizing the plates with sauce and adding ginger etc, which he would grab with his hand. I thought, “ok, he didn’t touch anything but the ginger and squirt bottle, but why not wear gloves? I hope he washed his hands really well.” I can’t erase this image from my mind. Why did we eat there?!
Super expensive and painful meal to say the least. ER bill is the least of my concern right now, I just can’t believe the stomach pain, nausea and discomfort this put my daughter through! Please beware of the quality of your food, refrigeration, and cleanliness. Everyone wear gloves. Clean, clean, clean. Quality...
Read moreMy family went here for dinner last night and had to leave early because my two children were having melt downs. From the minute we sat down, the service was terrible and the staff seemed very unorganized. I asked for our food to go. When I paid for our food (before everything was out) I noticed the waitress didn't charge me for our sushi orders, only the hot food. I asked her to cancel the sushi order if it wasn't already being made because we needed to go. She lied and said it was already being made. I waited for another 15-20 minutes for the hot food to come out, after others who sat down after us got their dinner. I talked to the hostess, who appeared to be an owner, and she took absolutely no responsibility; blaming everything on the waitress. Finally, when the food came out, I asked about the sushi. The hostess, who argued a little with the waitress trying to understand what was going on with our order, lied to me after I saw them walk to the sushi bar and put in my order. They came back to me and said it was being made. After another 5-10 minutes, I asked if they could please tell me when the sushi (only 2 rolls) was coming out because by this point, my family was in the car waiting. Both the hostess and waitress checked on the sushi and said it hadn't been made yet. I explained that I definitely did not want the food, which I asked about several times, and told them I had already waited too long for everything. One of the worst parts of this situation was that the restaurant temperature was probably close to 80 degrees. I was literally sweating while sitting down waiting. My daughter's hair was wet from sweat. I will never go back. It was an awful experience and I would not recommend this...
Read moreWe used to frequent Sushi Matsuri at their old location and it was our favorite Sushi Restaurant in the city. Today (9/5/2019) my wife and I went for lunch at the new location and unfortunately had horrible service. We arrived before 12:30 pm and were promptly seated, there were only five other patrons in the place and all but two were already eating. My wife ordered three pieces of sushi and I ordered the mixed Don. After about 30 minutes my wife received her sushi and they said my Don was coming right up. After another 30 minutes passed still no Don, even though almost everyone who were seated well after us had received and finished eating their food. At this point it had been an hour and we had another appointment, so I asked the waitress to cancel my order and gave her my credit card for the three pieces of sushi because we really needed to leave. She offered to box the Don to go, but said it still had not been made, so I declined. She came back and realized as she placed the bill that she had charged us for the Don. Then it started to get weird, the waitress then went back to the register for about ten minutes (I guess trying to void the transaction), only to come back again with the incorrect bill. She said she had voided the transaction, but needed me to sign the incorrect bill so she could finish voiding it - I said I would not sign an incorrect voided bill, but that I really needed to leave. She then took my credit card again to charge the correct amount and after another five minutes finally came back with the correct bill for three pieces of sushi. I gave them 2 stars because the quality of the sushi we did receive was excellent, even though the service...
