Passing through NM we were looking for a great local place to get breakfast. This place had alot of reviews and looked promising. My thoughts on that, well..."nice try." -Google maps got us there without a problem. The problem we had though, is not really knowing if we were going into the right door for the restaurant or if it was even open. There would have been no confusion if there was a sign, decal, painted glass, something on the entrance. Instead it's just a dark tinted door and from the outside it looks a little "iffy." ‐We were seated quickly, but right next to the kitchen, it was a little noisy for our liking. ‐Took the waitress about 10 min to get our order but it did come out within 5-8 min of being placed. She did check on us a couple times, even with it being pretty busy. ‐The employees could have been more personable, smile, make us feel welcome to be dinning there, but they just seemed busy and uncaring. We got the Katy Special, the food was okay, the French toast seemed like it was cooked in a toaster, smothered and served and tasted like I described. The bacon was thick and cooked crispy just like we like it, eggs were eh. -The inside seemed like it had seen better days. Its outdated. Probably hasn't been updated since it saw its opening day. More than a few tables are wobbly, the fix for the restaurant is a rolled up napkin... hey if it works, why not, haha. -After our meal, they brought us our bill. You need to walk to the counter to pay, they do accept cards or cash, and they offer a military discount which is awesome. -Overall, if your sick of fast food and want something local and similar to a run down Dennys. This is the...
Read moreListen, I travel all over the United States, and I can say with absolute certainty, that my breakfast here is one of the best I’ve ever had, bar none. From the road in parking lot, it does not look like much, but once you get inside, it’s a different ball game. It was very obvious that this is a local favorite, which is always a good sign. Most of the people seemed to know each other, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how kind they were to strangers like myself. My server was friendly and extremely efficient. She had my coffee to me quickly had taken my order, and had food on the table in less than 10 minutes. The green salsa that she recommended on my enchiladas was fantastic and they are not cheap with the cheese. The eggs were well prepared and the rice and beans were mouthwatering good. As I was on the road and not staying in Gallup, I was not able to try anything else, but I am considering routing through there again just to eat lunch or dinner and see if it’s as good as breakfast was. If you find yourself in Gallup overnight, I’m not sure you could do any better anywhere...
Read moreWe needed a longer stop on our road trip so decided to skip the usual fast food and selected Route 66 Railway Cafe based on the reviews; in particular that they were quick and the reviews didn’t let us down.
This is definitely a reliable old fashion diner with plenty of comfort food choices. And, clearly the locals regular place. Customers treating each other warmly with a handshake or hug and sometimes with quick chat to catch up.
All of the staff welcome you, keep the tables cleared and clean. Food is fast, but not Just the usual fast food. Today was a cloudy/wintery day so even better that we found a place with comfort food. I had a Grilled Ham & Cheese sandwich with Sweet Potato Waffle fries and my husband had the Hot Beef Sandwich which was opened face and served with mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans. There is a large enough menu to find what will satisfy your stomach.
We finished our lunch with a hot peach cobbler. Yummy!
