It's a nice park with an excellent boardwalk down to the beach. This boardwalk is one of the few places that you can see fireflies for only a few days each year in bear lake. Only problem is, to view these fireflies you have a small window of time right as the park is scheduled to close. We arrived at 10:15 and the gate was still open. This lead us to assume that garden city had suspended the gates closure as it's very popular to view these fireflies. Less than 30 minutes later we went to leave and found that the gate had been shut and locked behind us. The ONLY SIGN stating the park gate closes is in tiny letters on a tiny sign and there is a $250 fine for overnight parking. It is located on the gate, unless you stop at the gate you will not see it. We spent another half hour trying to get out. Police couldn't do anything aside from giving us a ride but they never showed up. We finally were let...

Read moreWe didn't stay at the park proper, but rather parked there to get to the beach.
You take a short boardwalk from the main park that goes through beautiful marshland, then you arrive on a pretty little beach. The beach is very clean and cared for, and there's no weird things like left over fishing lines and other gunk. There's flush toilets too and garbage cans. There's also a sign about the Bear Lake Monster!
The water is beautiful, and the bottom is very soft and silty. You walk further out and swim, the water is as beautiful and clear as ever. The marshland extends a bit into this area and there's a muddy sandbar our kids had a riot playing in. This was a great public beach, and a great alternative if you don't want to pay the state park fee for one of the...
