El Canelo Tacos y Mariscos — Restaurant in Garden City

I'll give them 2 stars, only because my caldo 7 mares was good. We had a bad experience, it was our first time there, and we won't be going back. As soon as we walked in, we saw the place full! Which is always a good thing right? All of the tables were taken except two, which were dirty. Well we went up to order, and the cashier lady was super distracted, like her focus wasn't even getting our our order.. my husband asked her if there were tables and she said yes, I'll clean one up for you guys. So we ordered, and we literally waited almost 10 mins until we had a table cleaned off! And that's because I had to go tell the distracted cashier! The entire staff got for that long because a gentleman asked for a full refund on his food, right after we ordered. The reason, I don't know why, but he seemed upset. Our food got there and my husband's tacos weren't the ones he ordered. The place is great! great food and great service. However, today the cashier was extremely rude. When we arrived she did not greet up well. Instead she stood and was on her phone. Then she was talking to one of the guys in the back (the owner) then she went and delivered food. By this I was trying to be patient, when she came back she still did not greet us not did she take our order. When we asked who was available to take our order she was extremely rude by stating that she was the only waiter. This made me very upset, we ended leaving. He tone, body language and facial expressions were way out of line. She was not like that when she was talking to...

We found El Canelo by chance and decided to try it. Oh, my goodness! Everything from the salsa (excellent meld of flavors and a touch of heat) to the beans and rice to the chiles rellenos I had (almost melt in your mouth delicious) and the enchiladas my husband had (sauce made from actual chiles, not chili powders) it was authentic and flavorful. I ordered menudo to go and will give that a try for dinner. Friendly service and a clean restaurant made our lunch experience even better. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in...
