Big Boy — Restaurant in Gaylord

DO NOT DO NOT order carry-out from this place. I grew up on Big Boy and it was always a special place to go. After walking in and standing at the podium for 5 minutes to be greeted, I placed a carry-out order for 3 sandwiches. 45 minutes later I approached the cashier station and the SAME PERSON asked how she could help me. I said I place my to-go order 45 minutes ago with you so just give me my money back. A light-bulb went off in her head and she got the manager. The manager apologized for the wait and refunded my money AND gave me the 3 sandwiches as well. I opened the boxes and the Big Boy and Slim Jims were absolutely appalling in appearance. Just tossed in there like an afterthought. They had obviously just been sitting under the heat lamps unnoticed by anyone (even the cook who made it?) The restaurant was not very busy. There were 5 groups of 3 people with lots of empty tables. There were many servers and staff just kind of standing around doing odds & ends of side-work. They really need to go back to basics of training staff to be aware of things outside of their own responsibilities (i.e. an individual standing alone at the front of the restaurant for 45 minutes unattended-to isn't unusual? C'mon.) I write this review because 1 hour of my time was spent with this place doing a U-turn with lunch with 2 hungry kids only in the end to be left empty-handed. We stopped by on our way home from up north on Sunday morning. We arrived around 10am, we were seated almost immediately, and were warned that it would be about a 45 minute wait on food. We figured no big deal, so we continued. We were seated for well over 20 minutes before the waitress came to get our drink order, and food order. She brought back our drinks relatively quickly, and then we waited, waited, and waited. After about another 45 minutes, she offered the kids some fresh fruit while we waited, which was very nice. The we waited some more, and we had been there for roughly 1 hour 40 minutes, when the waitress came to fill our coffee cups, she informed us that we were about 5 tickets back, and we confirmed that they had not started to cook our food yet. We kindly informed her that we no longer desired to wait any longer as our kids were hungry and restless, and we wanted to continue our journey home. She became quite rude and defensive, stating that no matter where we go in town, even the drive thru, that we would be waiting just as long. We were not charged for our drinks or fresh fruit for the kids. We left there and went to another restaurant in town where we were seated, ordered, ate and out the door in less than an hour. We were trying to have grace, as we know all establishments are struggling with the lack of workers, and big boy was quite busy that morning, but I think almost 2 hours to sit and still not have food...

We waited about ten minutes to be seated, another ten before we were asked what drinks we wanted. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger and wanted to substitute fries with onion rings. Our server simply said no I can't do that, when I looked up and said what do you mean shae then said they were out of onion rings. Okay, fries it is then. My husband went with the mushroom swiss breakfast skillet. We ordered pretzels bites as an appetizer, I must say this was the ONLY good part of our visit. We waited around a half hour for our food. My fries were cold and my burger had only a dime size of the sauce on each pun piece that comes on the burger. My husband's skillet was just a mess, the potatoes were not cooked nor were the onions. We waited another 15 minutes before she came back and finally offered to fill our drinks and my husband asked for his food to be cooked properly explaining both the potatoes and onion were not cooked. Whe she returned with our drinks and his food she did apologize. My husband took a bite and found the potatoes were still not cooked, and the eggs and mushrooms appeared to have been microwaved as they were hard. He did not eat his food, we were not offered a discount for the food that was obviously still not properly cooked. Terrible service, terrible food, we will not return and I do not recommend...
