I was working in the Geneva area, and asked where's the best place to get a sandwich? The person told me, "it's hard to find, it's on the side of the building, but it a classic Italian Deli... Josefs Deli... Not spelled the regular way..." Now I love a great Mom and Pop place. As I waited to get in because at lunch there's a line, to the door, I saw that on top of the deli area, there's a complete butcher display. Steaks, chops, and an array of hand cut products. I ordered an Italian Sub, filled with great meats and provolone cheese. As it was being assembled the guy next to me asked, "What's the secret to getting a meatball sub, tomorrow (the special sandwich on Fridays)?" The guy behind the counter said order it now and pick it up tomorrow. Apparently they sell out before 1pm. As I got my order, the owner asked who I was by say, "I ain't never seen you here, before" I told him an abridged of the above story. "First time? You gotta try my grandma's potato salad!" It tasted like a grandma made it. Fresh celery, still crunchy, the potatoes firm, yet not too al dente. This is why a place, that's hard to find has a line...
   Read moreTerrible customer service. The store closed at 5:00 PM. Few customers were in the store when I arrived at 4:35 PM. I was standing at the counter at 4:40 PM, 20 minutes before closing, when the employee behind the counter asked for my order. I asked for various sliced deli meats. I was refused service. I was told that Josefâs stopped serving sliced deli meats 20 minutes before closing, âso that they could disinfect the slicerâ. I had altered my plans to be sure to get to Josefâs well before closing. There was no mention on Josefâs website that certain items would not be available 20 minutes before closing. Finally, why didnât they disinfect the slicer at 5:00 PM, after closing???
In addition to the deli cold cuts, I was planning to buy steaks and chops and fish, etc. Instead, I left the store annoyed, with no purchases. Josefâs serves good products, but that arenât that good to put up with very poor and disrespectful service. I will...
   Read moreThe one time I purchase meat I find after breaking it down into equal parts I find my purchase to be short by almost 2 ounces. When i brought it to the attention of the staff it was met with resistance. The solution given was that they would give me the amount that was short. The difference between the 3 lbs was the packaging that i was charged for. I was essentially told i had to be wrong as the scale is allegedly tared with packaging on the scale to zero. If that was the case then my meat that I purchased would have been 3 lbs minus the packaging. The meat was very tasty but short is short. If selling incorrect weight is common practice, then it is us that are paying for the packaging. If that's the case then we as customers should be told such and be able to bring our own packaging in order to have the amount purchased that were paying for be truly what's being purchased.
