Discovered this diamond in the ruff recently while searching online for fish and chips. Went in for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised!
JG greeted me and made me feel at home the second I walked through the door. He was making lunch and drink suggestions before I even got to my seat. I really liked that!
I sat at the bar with the bartender Josh since I was by myself. The restaurant has many many tables to choose from but sitting at the bar was perfect since I was solo. Josh was warm and friendly and also made drink suggestions and meal suggestions while we had a friendly chat about the day.
I put in my order for fish and chips and an Arnold Palmer. JG would swing by often and make me laugh while I waited for my food. He was humorous and helpful which really created a fun environment for me.
My food came out fast and was obviously freshly made. My Arnold Palmer came out and it looked pretty fancy and delicious which it was.
As I sat at the bar admiring how great this food looked the manager Moe came by and surprised me with a soup sampler! There were 4 types of soup samples on the dish and also a beautiful oyster with fresh made pico on it. Moe was very nice and told me all about these soups which ranged from fresh gumbo to clam chowder, all were fantastic! The oyster was delicious as well and of USA origin.
Then JG came back again and brought me a sample of the haddock taco. The tortilla was fresh, the haddock was hot and this taco was very good. They don't skimp on the ingredients they really give you full plates here! The taco had minimal sauce, a very large robust haddock and some herbs on it, very good!
The whole staff here appeared very happy to be serving myself and the other guests. They were all smiles and very VERY attentive. The attitude of the staff and the quality of the food really put me in a fresh fish and oyster bar type vibe.
The decor and overall setup of the restaurant was simple, airy, with a high end feel but not stuffy. Very fun!!! Very exciting for a great and fast lunch!
JG, Josh and Moe are definitely assets to the company (kitchen staff also). These folks are proud of what they do and I'm sure that extends to their own personal lives as well. You cant fake that type of energy!
These are go getter mentality type of folks that know how a business needs to run and what a customer such as myself expects. They know how to "read the room" and the folks walking in through that door.
If I could rate the service and food more stars I would. I left this spot feeling very happy and smiling because it was so nice to be able to enjoy a high quality meal in a sea of really mediocre restaurants around here. They CARE!!!!!
I might add that the prices were fantastic. I paid around $18 before tip for this meal and had fish and chips leftover to bring home!
Thank you JG, Josh, Moe and the entire staff here for my great experience!
I highly recommend Fish City Grill and will be back most...
Read moreUpdate: I sent and email and she never responded. It’s been months. So yes, fish city Grill supports every thing that I encountered while at their restaurant.the fake response is to make them look better but in reality they don’t care.
I experienced racism from this Fish city grill. It took me a while to write this review because I went back and forth with myself if I wanted to take their offer to revisit for a “better” experience”. I now know I do not. So here it goes. My sister and I drove from Dripping Springs to try this place which is 1 hour away. When we arrived it was a wait so we gave them our information and went to a near by store. When our table was ready we were sat and as we read the menus, we waited for our server. No one ever came. So we stopped a young lady that had walked by several times and asked did she know who was our server. She stated “ I don’t know, but it’s not me” and she walked away. Then we proceeded to asked the host and he told us it was in fact the young lady we had just stopped. He went to go get her and he bought us water, but no one came after that. We were about to leave when we noticed a white couple walked in and she immediately went to help them to their table which was exactly right behind us. She even help them take a seat. She literally looked at my sister and I, rolled her eyes and walked away. We sat so confused on what had just happened. We immediately got up to leave but stopped and asked for a manager. The young lady was standing in the back at the entrance of the kitchen and said she was not helping us black people. The manager apologized and gave us a free entree for next time. I wrote into the customer service website and was contacted by the district manager at 9pm that same night. The conversation was extremely condescending. He told me he had never experienced such thing with that young lady and repeatedly said how great of a person she was. He stated, he knows she did not mean any of things we said she did in that type of way. He knows this because he work with her often. He apologized for our experience but ended the conversation by saying, “she is not like that”. He also stated he wanted us to come back for a better experience when he is there. A week later he sends a $25 gift card so we can come back.
Fish city grill showed us that they support racism. As black women we were 1. Embarrassed and 2. Was belittled and treated as if we didn’t belong in Fish city grill. This has scarred me and I will never step foot nor recommend fish city grill to any person of color. No Matter the location because the district manager is over the majority of the ones from Austin to Dallas....
Read moreLet me start by saying that the staff here are amazing! I put together a very last minute birthday party for my dad with about 30 people. I called a few days ahead of time and made a request for between 20-24 people (several brought plusses I wasn't expecting). Even though they don't really do reservations, the manager on duty (I think her name was Tiffany?) was kind enough to help me out. I called the day of to confirm and a different yet also awesome manager (Mo) took my call and my request and even offered to bring my dad a dessert on the house for his birthday! When we arrived Mo greeted us all and handled the extra people in stride. She didn't make a fuss or even make me feel guilty or like she was annoyed by my error. She welcomed us all and even remembered the names of anyone she was given names for and used the names throughout our visit. Although I'm allergic to most things on their menu (again this wasn't a party for me, or i would not be that annoying person that chooses to eat at a seafood establishment knowing I'm allergic to shellfish) the waitress working our half of the party (Candice) was friendly and knowledgeable in what was safe for me and how they could accommodate something on the grill for me and again didn't treat me like she was annoyed with me being that person. I ordered a salad and it was good. I was told by others that their food was good also (except for the fish and chips which I was told was not so great). My dad loves the oysters there and my brother's family loved their shrimp and lobster. So all in all the food was good but the service was fantastic! I would have been happy with them pre-pandemic but after the horrible service I've had nearly everywhere else since 2020 began, this group stands out far and above anywhere else I've been in 2022 for their service and attitude. My dad was "shocked and delighted" which for him is nearly impossible to achieve. Thanks FCG for making an old grump (me or my dad, take your...
