There is a reason airport retailers have a bad rap. They charge you over the top prices for subpar product and shoddy service because they KNOW that you can't go anywhere else unless you leave the airport (which would take more than an hour to return by travel and going through security) or at your destination...when you leave the airport.
And so begins my subpar review of my smoothie experience at Fresh Healthy Cafe. I had the chunky monkey - which essentially is chocolate, banana, and peanut butter along with other ingredients blended together. Previous menu pics show they used chocolate soy milk, but when I went today to order, they used (and advertised) chocolate powder. My smoothie was advertised to have almond milk, cocoa powder, yogurt (didn't specify any flavor), banana, sugar free vanilla (?), PB2 (which the cashier told. me was peanut butter), and agave. What I was provided did not taste like those ingredients. I could only taste the cocoa and the almond milk - which tasted watered down. The texture of the smoothie was NOT smooth at all. I could taste individual pieces of ice. Since it was not well blended it was difficult to drink through the straw. Just an overall poor drinking experience - and for over $10.
What adds to the poor rating is my experience with the staff and vibe. It felt like a closet hole in the wall location in the airport. The staff felt like they couldn't be bothered with me or the other customers. They had three blenders and four staff but only two of them were making smoothies - and there were 8 of us customers who all wanted smoothies! It was so bad they actually told several customers after me that "we are not making smoothies at the moment because we are backed up with 6 orders for smoothies (one was being assembled and one was in the blender = total of 8)". What? We are all here for smoothies (nobody was ordering salads or pre-made sandwiches) and the staff can't shift to get our smoothies professionally prepared and served using ALL three blenders? On top of that, people were being served smoothies before me although they put their order in after me - what's up with that?
So shoddy service, supbar product, and over the top prices. Yet I still paid for it and suffered through my watered down, chalky textured smoothie because I wanted a smoothie and there was no other vendor serving smoothies close to my departure gate.
Next time though - I'll just skip the smoothies...and Fresh Healthy Cafe altogether. If I'm going to overpay and get shoddy service, I can find better alternative...
Read moreThose of you who travel through Atlanta Hartsfield airport know there are VERY limited choices if you're trying to eat healthy. I searched restaurants before I landed and found this one. I was super excited only to be EXTREMELY disappointed. Let me ask a question. How can you call your restaurant healthy and fresh if all if the food is pre-made and sitting out on a shelf? Protein bowls which is what I wanted, WITH AVOCADO, were sitting out on the shelf. As you might imagine, the avocado in EACH of them was brown and disgusting. The protein in the bowl, i.e. chicken, was about 1/8 to 1/4 of a chicken breast cut up, if that. There's typically 7 grams of protein in 1oz chicken. Those bowls didn't look like they contained an ounce of chicken. So needless to say I bypassed the bowls. I asked about the sandwiches/wraps. Yep, you guessed it. Pre-made and on the shelf. That left smoothies. This is the only thing on the menu not pre-made....kinda. They make pitchers of each one as needed. I asked the lady working there, how were the smoothies sweetened. She didn't know and didn't seem to care about my question. If you're trying to eat healthy, honestly you might do better at Baja Fresh across the way. Fresh Healthy Cafe....not fresh, not healthy and really not a Cafe since there are no tables and chairs. It's basically a bigger grab and go kiosk. If I could give -5 stars I would. Save your time and money. This place is so...
Read moreThis is supposed to be the best airport in the United States, yet almost every employee at every store acts like they would rather die than deal with customers.
I had 15-20mins before boarding and go looking for something refreshing in C for the flight. As I approach Fresh, there is a lady out front waiting, it's a tight space, so I politely ask if she is ordering (thinking there is a line). She was waiting, so I go to order.
The woman who greeted me, who was making the beverage, was very nice. I asked how long it typically takes to make a beverage. Then, the two other employees interjected. First said very frankly, no it takes 9mins to produce a drink. The second lady goes, "We are not responsible for how long it takes, sir," in a credulous tone.
Okay, my business is obviously unwanted. It became apparent to me that these staff were not to be bothered. So, I took my 20mins to quickly write this becausewhat else does one do when they can't enjoy a delicious smoothie, and hopefully make the staff at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson and Fresh be aware that their behavior sucks. It's the best airport in the world, show some pride instead of contempt.
As well, fair note to all travelers both Domestic and International, the folks that work around this airport hate you and hate their...
