I try to be fair in every review I do, my intentions are never to harm a business or the livelihood of others. I have to stay true to my beliefs. One of the. Many things I do believe in is transparency. The reason I say this, anytime I give a less than stellar review, i do feel a little bad. But that's part of doing reviews. Walking into Sweet Hut is like walking into a paradise of sweets, treats, and happy times As you'll see in the pictures wall to wall baked items, Danish, donuts, cakes, breads, rolls, tiny little cute desserts, and Great gift boxes, just about anything for a special occasion, or your favorite craved Dessert. The staff was very welcoming and very upbeat. Yet they lack the knowledge of the menu. Other than what's written in front of them. They are very little ingredient knowledge. One of the young ladies gave me a binder to show me which items were regular everyday baked goods Vegetarian baked goods and vegan baked goods, the regular food items were also in this binder marked the same way. Vegetarian being marked by green leaves on the digital menu. There is nothing on the digital menus marked vegan not sure why. After going into the back, one of the girls found. what was in each of the items samosas. Then we were able to order. So we ordered the samosas with a curry sauce. These were hot and fresh and cute. Pretty good, but not the best. We've same goes for the vegan spring rolls they were hot and fresh but just average tasting. I also ordered the tofu sandwich. Since this comes on a brioche bond, I had to opt out and then made it into a lettuce wrap, this tasted pretty good. They just don't know how to make the lettuce wrap appropriately, so it was messy and all over the place, not the end of the world, but it was pretty tasty. The fries that were on the side were called plum fries. I figured I'd try something different. I'm not a big fan of these. It just tasted like they sprinkled powdered sugar on them, This might be a local favorite, just not for me. The company that we had. Said the desserts that they had the cookies and the doughnuts were pretty good in the mochi that I had which was a green tea filled with chocolate was o k. The biggest component of this review for me is the ingredients and the nutritional value. I understand that we're here for that. Being said there was no ingredients listed on anything that was no nutritional value listed on anything that we got. While I'm sure this is probably available online. I'm not a fan at all when it comes to making people go online and look up the ingredients. Biggest reason being, someone that's in a rush may have an allergy, and this could be dangerous to their health while they do have a binder that has allergies listed in it, some people may be in a rush to get In-N-Out, or even just to forget and ask what is in the products...
Read moreI've been gathering here with friends/family on a weekly basis over the past year with very few exceptions and routinely spend $50-100 each time on our meal and on bakery items that we take home for the weekend. We've gotten everything from cakes to bun, cookies and donuts and in between. On a few occasions, we've gotten our food to go. Even when they are swamped, they are fast and normally get orders out quickly. Lately, I've started to notice details that have caught my attention but that I have dismissed since they've been so consistently exceptionally good. Last week's visit though was a major disappointment not because of any problems but because they've changed things to much more mediocre quality. They've switched from deliciously seasoned crispy shoestring fries to plain bland steak fries. They're like eating a mouthful of rehydrated instant mashed potatoes. No flavor at all. They've changed the bugolgi sauce to what must be a different brand. It's lighter in color, far less flavorful and reminds me of plain watery gravy. They've changed the lids they use on their drinks as well. While it seems, at least for now, that they still use the old covers that seal the top if you include boba or such in your drink, they have a new snap on hard plastic lid that has a "soda can pull tab"-like place that you actually push in to drink from. It seems it's intended to open into the cup when you drink and then come back up "closing" the opening. Whoever prepares your drink either needs very large hands or has to use two hands to snap the lid on. If they use just one hand, they'll also push down on the opening allowing it to leak. No more to go orders. I don't want my drinks leaking all over my car. They also seem to have been having more turnover recently. Now any retail business tends to have higher levels of turnover than other businesses, but it seems to have jumped noticeably lately. Actually, their turnover had been noticeably low previously. It's not that the food is suddenly bad, it's very disappointingly unexceptional and a significant departure from the past. The part that scares me is the thought that the owners have gotten "greedy" and are cutting costs by reducing quality. The shock and disappointment were bad enough that I spent time over the weekend looking at what else is in the area so I can start hunting for a new...
Read moreI didn't care for it too much, but I can see its appeal. The way it works is you walk in, grab a tray, cover it with a paper liner, grab some tongs, and pick from a wide variety of (mostly) sweet, and (a few) savory pastries. Most of them are very simple pastries with just a little cream, peanut butter, or paste such as red bean and aren't really sweet, so if you're looking for something really rich and sweet then you'll be disappointed.
Where they shine is their vast assortment of teas, smoothies, and other beverages. You can customize the drink how you like it by adjusting the level of sweetness, and ice. You also can chose up to two add-ins (I think) included in the price.
They also have a kitchen where you can order sandwiches, appetizer style snacks, and other things.
We tried the caterpillar (large croissant filled with sweet cream cheese), Japanese Hokkaido Cupcake (angel food cake Twinkie), red velvet cake slice (not really more of a chocolate cake that was dyed red), pepper chicken bun (reheat it in oven or toaster oven to get the most out of it) and some more not worth mentioning.
I also tried the passion fruit green tea with light sweetener and little ice. Unless you like really strong matcha flavored teas, go with normal or heavy ice and let it melt down a little. Also the normal sweetness probably won't be as sweet as you're expecting as the lightly sweetened barely tasted sweet. The best way I could describe it was passion fruit Earth flavored drink, and I drink teas black all of the time.
The reason I give it three stars is simply because the line is way too long but doesn't need to be. If they had people with tablets checking out card carrying customers they could remedy the line issue. Then the people ordering drinks, or paying with cash that needed to go to the counter could get there faster, and then the line would be reduced a lot quicker.
Hey but if this is your type of place, or if you've never tried it and are adventurous and open minded....
