Loved it. My girlfriend and I are never on that side of town, and we stopped in on a whim. A bit more than we wanted to pay, but oh SO worth it. I always complain that blind pig burgers suck, yet too many of my acquaintances talk it up. Need a new burger? Come here. Do it. It's calling to you. (Plus it's clean...a quality often missing at other local burger joints in town.) Burger plates were in the 9-15 dollar range, so be prepared for a wallet hit, but they're just worth it...at least the ones we had. Truly a massive amount of burger for the price. We got a chupacabra burger (pepperjack and green chilis on it) and a "chef's special." Curiously, you just ask for the "chef's special" and they surprise you with something off-menu (I'm sure there's a rotation, but still...not on the menu, so you don't know what's coming). This particular chef's special was godly. Men died. Women wept. The heavens were moved to create this monstrosity of sliced smokey ham, giant beef patty, fried green tomato, and sweet chili sauce. Best burger I've ever had....until my girlfriend stole the rest of it and refused to return it to me. Men have left their women for less, I'm reasonably certain. As for sides, their potato salad was sinfully delicious. The "herb fries," I will say, didn't do it for me. All I tasted was rosemary, and I LOVE rosemary, but this was too much. I want to at least taste the french fries. Next time I'll actually get a couple beers and a dessert and make it a complete meal and perhaps report back. Decor and atmosphere were a plus. The atmosphere was delightfully sassy and amusing, but our service was quite friendly and good (we weren't sure what to expect at first, based on some of the adverts and whatnot hanging around). Take note...they have no qualms harassing the local competition, nor making fun of themselves. I've rambled enough. We'll be back. We've got a rotation of 3 or 4 nicer restaurants we like to visit, and this just became...
Read moreInteresting selection of food. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was very tasty, but should have been warmer in the center of the plate. It offered a nice range of salt from the cheese and bacon, sweet from the slightly charred caramelized sprouts, a satisfying lardy meatiness attributable to the bacon and the sprouts went a long way to defusing guilt. I mean veggies, right?
The Reuben was competent, but not nearly toasted / grilled enough. It has obviously been introduced to a grill yet remained sadly under toasted. The corned beef portion was adequate and the cheese nicely melted (I assume via salamander.) I thought the sauerkraut with bacon and jalapenos and odd choice as the kraut was not sauer enough. The bacon and jalapenos overwhelmed the too lightly fermented cabbage. Ultimately the sauerkraut added a nice couch and that's about it.
One thing that was perfect was the amount of herbed french fries. It was nice to receive a generous portion of herby, not too greasy, potato goodness.
I question the persistent use of serving boards rather than plates, or even baskets. It seems a tired holdover from the gastropub past.
And those menus! White text on a black background is okay. But red text on black? That creates an accessibility issue, making the menus difficult, if not impossible, to read in the low light atmosphere of the restaurant. The contrast between the red and black creates a problematic homogeneous tone for many, especially those with...
Read moreAfter a rough day at the hospital my family decided to try catch-22 for the first time. My wife is a picky eater and the kids have their own tastes. When I say everything was phenomenal I mean it. The pretzel as an appetizer was gone so fast. The beer cheese is white instead of orange and it was so much better plus the wasabi honey mustard was perfect. Then I had the bad mother clucker with cheddar bay biscuits as the bun. The chicken was so flavorful and tender and the biscuits were perfect. My 13 year old son eats everything spicy and he was impressed by the dry rub habanero wings. My wife had the Philly cheese and the garlic sauce on it really gave it a huge step up in flavor. Then my daughter had the Mac and cheese. Universally for years we try the Mac and cheese in different places and my wife’s always is better. Until now. My life is so happily upset that she found a Mac and cheese better than her own. It was crazy. I also ordered the managers special cocktail and was able to ask for it to stay in the Burbon/whisky/scotch family. It was very tasty and they did not skimp on the pour. We were seated and served in a timely manner and the drink offerings both alcoholic and non are vast. After are first time visiting it has become a favorite place to visit when we go to Athens. If you like trying new and interesting ideas this is the...
