I was a great fan of the original Morso's and when they sold to Trish, who owns the current Morso's, I have to say, was a bit underwhelmed; however, that was around 2020! I gave her a pass as she was one of the only restaurants in town sticking with it and making the most of her new situation. Not only that, but where else can you go to get a fabulous view of the harbor and amazing servers!
Fast forward to 2023! Wow! A major improvement and a regular go to restaurant from here on out, with the still, great service! We started with the oven warmed olives - Yum! A combination of cerignola and manzanilla olives; The Cerignola were seasoned in chile and with their red tint and meatiness, I could have just eaten them for dinner. Then we had a beet salad , where the beets were finely diced into small cubes and marinated, spread over arugula and sprinkled with goat cheese. Although I've had this at other places and found others a bit better, it was still quite delicious. My main meal consisted of the seafood chowder, that was a creamy tomato, full with assorted seafood chunks. I had only a cup and was full, but honestly, if I'd had more room, I'd have gone for a bowl! Unbelievable. Next was cacio e pepe, which was the perfect comfort food for a cold PNW day. It was properly spiced with enough pepper and cheese to make you say hallelujah! The wine list is adequate and I can say I'm always content with my selection; however, if I was going to nix this restaurant for anything, it would be the wine selection.. They have an amazing wine store, but to drink any of it for dinner, you have to pay a corkage fee. I would think if you're going to buy an entire bottle to eat with the dinner you''re paying for, you shouldn't have to pay to uncork it. I'm assuming it is to get more of us to join the wine club.. You won't have to pay the corkage fee if you join that. So, it's off to the 1-3 SAT wine tastings to see if I'd...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had heard that Morsoās was under new management and saw some good reviews. We decided a visit would be in order. We had been there over a year ago and were not wildly impressed...dark inside, mediocre food and wine list.
Well, we are more than happy to report that the new management has done wonders! Itās light and airy inside, the staff is really friendly (Nathan our server was just beaming the whole time!), the Happy Hour prices and quality of house wine/food is really outstanding and in general, itās vastly improved over the old place.
We will head back for dinner soon to try out their main courses - limited selection right now since they are taking the transition slowly (wise idea). I canāt say enough about how nice Morsoās has become...and it is in such a great location with a fantastic view of Gig Harbor and Mt. Rainier.
We are happy to see a moderately priced dining option now come back to life in āthe Harborā - well done Morsoās!
Update 25 Feb 2020: As noted above we decided to try Morso's for dinner...it was jam packed (a good sign) Saturday night. Just have to say that we had a simply wonderful dinner and service was spot on. Nathan (our server) knows his wines and found us a perfect bottle for dinner. I had the scallops and my wife had the chicken...both excellent and portion sizing was appropriate - meaning we still had room for two really great desserts!
The noise level was high due to the large number of folks there - the owners are aware of it and will be installing some sound baffling to help minimize the noise. It's actually a sign of success since an empty restaurant doesn't need sound baffles! Morso's potential is being nicely developed by the owners and great service staff. We look forward to dining there again soon (especially outside when the weather warms a bit) and enjoying great food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA place that makes every effort to give service that makes your night wonderful." "Loved the atmosphere and food/wine!" "Excellent wine list, delicious food and superb customer service!"
The above previous reviewers summed up our dining experience well. Keeping in mind this is a cozy and casual wine bar, the only negative of the night was that nearby table of six were much too loud with their induced celebration. Overall, you get a great view of the harbor, are offered a fantastic selection of wines to choose from, receive good service, and will be able to receive tasty food. Expect to pay about a $100.00 for two ā including $30 for wine. We came during the Try-3-for-$30 week and received excellent service [although it took longer to bring a simple salad (I must recommend the mustard based dressing ā very tasty!!!) than it should have, especially after bringing the wine glasses so promptly ā long enough, so that my partner and I enjoyed a casual conversation with enough time to drink the well filled glass]. Our smiling waitress did not hesitate with when I asked her to recommend a Washington wine, to go with the French Bistro Bavette Steak I ordered. Excellent choice ā thank you again, for your suggestion to try the Amavi 2014 Cab. When our orders arrived together, my first impression was that the steak slices and cut potatoes had been much overcooked. However, as I got into the meal, the Chimichurri made the overall dish just a flavor loverās delight. I am glad the dish arrived warm, but that elusive fifth star would have been awarded, had it been presented just-off-the-stove-hot. The Key Lime pie parfait complemented the meal without too much sweetness. If you havenāt been, try this place for a...
