This review is difficult to write for me because the gentleman running the restaurant was so nice to us and we had a very pleasant experience. The restaurant itself is pretty new so everything is very nice inside. The atmosphere is modern urban. My wife and I do love Greek food, we've traveled all over the valley for good Greek/Mediterranean food. With that in mind our opinion of Arizona Pita was overall bland. Nothing was really bad, but it wasn't great either. We had 2 Gyro wraps, the chicken gyro platter, Greek fries and fulafel appetizer. The Gyro meat was plentiful on the wrap but was a bit dry. All the toppings were fresh. They give you a side of tzatziki sauce and that's where it fell flat. The tzatziki sauce was watery and nearly flavorless. I usually really enjoy tzatziki but this was almost completely missing dill and just wasn't up to par. The chicken and gyro plate was really well portioned but the food itself was again really bland. The chicken schwarma didn't have any spice to it. It was more like grilled, chopped chicken than traditional schwarma. Unfortunately, the bland didn't end there. The hummus had a lot of sumac on top and that's where the flavor ended. The hummus was really the most bland I have tasted. The pita was also very dry and reminded me of the pocket pitas from the store. The Greek fries were far from traditional. They put a good amount of sumac and feta on them but they use tahini sauce instead of lemon and one of our Greek fries was missing the tahini sauce. Almost all other Greek fries I have had have lemon sauce or lemon zest and other Greek spices. These did not. They weren't bad, but in my opinion, are not Greek fries. Fulafel was fresh and had a good texture, but again was bland. The garlic sauce that came with this was a real pleasant surprise. Probably the best flavor of the meal.
If you think your average Greek place is too bold and want something more bland in flavor I can recommend Arizona Pita.
I personally need more flavor and won't be returning.
Note to the owner: Please take this review as constructive criticism. Nothing was bad, but I really don't feel it was flavorful enough and everything was just missing that Mediterranean flavor I look for when...
Read moreIt was after 5 PM on a Friday night. I just finished paying for auto repairs next door and decided to pop in here on a whim. I'd been at a seminar all day, my wife had a full day, and I was looking to bring home something other than pizza for the two of us.
The first thing I saw when I walked up was the large, full-color menu boards above the counter with some tasty-looking dishes pictured. The place was empty, which gave me pause, but I was greeted immediately by the young manager, Matthew. He was exuberant and friendly and made some great recommendations. He answered my non-stop questions with patience and detail.
I ended up choosing three different meals, lamb shank, beef kabobs, and chicken shawarma, along with salad, hummus, pita bread, and some FRESH MADE Baklava! Two folks went to work preparing my food while Matthew and I had an extensive conversation about the business he used to own and how he transitioned to his current position. What really impressed me was EVERYONE’S commitment to delivering excellent service. I really felt like I was having my food prepped for me by family.
When everything was ready and packaged up, I headed out, and once I was on the road, I could barely control myself on the drive home. Everything smelled so good it was hard not to tear into the packages. When I finally did get home, my sweetheart and I FEASTED. While everything was good, I have to say the Shawarma was my favorite, followed closely by the lamb shank.
I would have liked more hummus and salad, but there was plenty of rice. Definitely, NOT a fast-food-chain sort of feel. Their sign says gourmet, and I think they hit the mark.
This little Mediterranean gem gets the Tony Stark seal of approval. And if you KNOW anything about how the Avengers and I like to eat, you probably guessed why I like Shawarma the best.
So, whether you fly over or drive, give this place a...
Read moreThe gyro I ordered for takeout at Arizona Pita in Gilbert yesterday was horrible. Worse, it seemed indicative of what apparently passes for “fast food” nowadays. About $1.05 in value at a $9 price point. Normally, I keep my expectations very low when I try a new place and Arizona Pita did not disappoint. For instance, UNDER their scant veal and beef presentation, I was barely able to discern a sliver of red onion and a hint of diced tomato. Beyond that, I noted two emaciated pepperoncini peppers. (I ordered tzatziki sauce on the side). What amazes me, is the complete lack of awareness on the part of fast food purveyors like Arizona Pita in an extremely competitive market. Since I don’t believe Arizona Pita is purposely trying to discourage repeat business and organic growth, my only conclusion is that they are sloppy, incompetent, and dismissive of discerning consumers. Bottom-line:...
