I really have come to love Pho, and with the recent appearance of AZ Pho Grill Restaurants in the east Valley I have enioyed this excellent Pho source for lunches and dinners. I have gone the the location on Val Vista and Queen Creek dr a few times, but this was my first visit to the Baseline and Higley location.
AZ Pho Grill is exactly what you'd expect- a Vietnamese restaurant specializing in the cornerstone pho dish. It is a nicely decored space with about 20 tables and booths, in a quiet space with a subdued and nice feel. The staff is kind and helpful. I have always found open seating, even when I arrive at noon for lunch.
My first order is almost always the steak pho dish (p2 on the menu), which is a beef broth based soup including all the vermicelli noodles, legumes and veggie tastes youd expect, and of course the thin sliced steak. Like most pho soup dishes this continues to cook a bit when you get it piping hot, so you can let it simmer and soften to your like. My other favorites are the vermicelli noodle dishes with come sans broth, but with added veggies. My favorite one of those includes egg roll sliced up amongst the ingredients. Excellent.
Price wise the base pho dish is from 13 to 16 depending on your selections. Vermicelli dish is a bit more. The appetizer like pot stickers are about 8 and are ok, but not my favorite. A meal with a non-alcoholic drink will normally run about 20 without an appetizer.
I like this place because it is very consistent and I can trust to have the dish I want made the same way each time. The location is convenient to the Higley Banner hospital and the...
Read moreThis is my second time here. This is one of my favorite Pho places now. The servers were polite and attentive, but they never hovered so that we were able to have very pleasant conversations without being interrupted. Yet, when we needed them, they were available to come attend us. The restaurant is clean and maintained well. It has a very pleasant atmosphere.
My hubby really liked the calamari appetizers. All 4 of us ordered Pho, and all of us really enjoyed eating it. The brisket Pho comes in a beef broth that is very tasty! The chicken breast Pho comes in a savory chicken broth. My Filipino mom-in-law really liked it. We'll certainly be coming back!
Update: Oct. 2024 We have kept coming back, and we enjoy it every time! Tonight, we had the shrimp spring roll with peanut sauce and the calamari appetizers. The spring rolls looked beautiful, and the veggies were so fresh that they crunched when I bit into them. The calamari were crunchy outside and chewy inside: perfect! I chose the P6 tendon, ox tail, and flank pho. It had such a savory taste that I added very little hoisin sauce! Hubby chose P. 21 seafood veggie noodles. It was perfectly seasoned.
The restroom was tidy and well stocked.
The servers were friendly and courteous! We never had to wait long! It's a great place to come and...
Read morei am a vegetarian and have been eating tofu for over 20 years. i have ordered Vietnamese veggie tofu from over 20 Vietnamese resturants across the U.S. This resturant had no clue how to wok and season fried tofu properly. they basically keep the tofu in the block , throw it into the wok and only cook 4 sides. i have never in my 20 years been served raw, unseasoned fried tofu in my pho. the proper way to wok tofu , is to slice into slices, add to wok and lightly season the tofu. i was served raw, unseasoned tofu tossed into a soup. Thats like serving raw , unseasoned chicken to a meat eater. when we ordered the tofu spring rolls and the tofu pho we reiterated upon ordering , was the tofu fried. they stated "yes"the menu stated it as well that the tofu was fried as well. do not believe them that their tofu is fried...its not. the manager was confrontional as well. not in the business of the customer is always right attitude. we picked the raw, unseasoned tofu out of the pho and recieved no discount. we have had great tofu at so many Vietnamese businesses.
the ice tea very weak and tasted like water. i ordered no lemon and at the bottom of my glass was a lemon seed? i cant speak about their meat or seafood menu. this review is for all the vegans and vegetarian eaters to pass on the so called...
