I was SO excited about this place and ready to love it! I poured over the reviews and was confident we were going to have a great time. We did not. I'm giving this 2 stars for the service alone. Our server really tried to overcompensate for the back of the house. I did read one other review that shared he got an underdone burger, but I thought that might have been a one-off, which is bound to happen. To be sure, I asked our server if I should get a sandwich or a burger, and she heartily endorsed the burger. I ordered it medium. At first bite it tasted off. I cut it open and it was red throughout and bleeding in the middle. I've been a server so I HATE to send food back, but I've also been a restaurant owner and I know any good kitchen wants the opportunity to make it right. So while I felt horrible I did show the burger to our server and she said she'd get a fresh one started right away. Then I waited for quite awhile. It took about 3x as long as our original order. During that time my husband generously offered to share his meal. He ordered the pork Schnitzel and the Schnitzel itself was good enough, the green beans were fine and the mashed potatoes were... weird. They are smashed potatoes, not mashed. They were not fluffy but had skin and large chunks of potato and some soupy consistency in between. And the flavor was just odd. It tasted like they used sweetened coffee creamer or some kind of sweetened oat milk for the creaminess. Really off putting and not at all the flavor profile you'd expect from mashed potatoes (i.e. a bit of salt, butter, etc). So then my burger finally arrives and in the first bite I get a very serious crunch. Dang it! The burger was not just cooked well done and not medium but it was burnt! Not a little crust around the edges but the entire bottom was burnt. The burger went from raw to overdone and dry, so this was either punishment for sending it back or they don't know how to cook a burger. Regardless, this is not acceptable for a bar and grill where burgers are a staple and customers should be the focus. The best servers cannot make up for...
Read moreCan't complain here. This restaurant is just outside my hotel which made it convenient walk a few steps for a great meal. I rarely visit a restaurant with the intention to try a wide variety of the menu.
I visited this restaurant for almost each night of the week, only repeating an order once - the pork schnitzel. I cook schnitzel at home and am always excited eat schnitzel without the work.
This version of schnitzel was very good. I enjoyed the Dijon ale cream sauce on a bed a hot green beans. This entree was served hot (the way schnitzel should be) and was tender to eat.
I also tried the bacon and brie hamburger with Parmesan fries. I did not realize the fries are an extra cost. The fries were awesome and would consider take out back to my hotel room in the future. The burger was cooked to order and also delicious.
The fish and chips were my least desired entree I tried at Union Grill and Tap. The fish is a square cut, making it difficult to dip in sauce and easily fell apart making eating with fingers difficult. The fish did taste bland. The breading was crispy, but quickly became mixed up in the pieces of fish falling apart.
Each night of my visit I had a different server and all were very good and attentive suggesting consistent hiring and training. I was usually in and out occasionally ordering a beer. The beer menu was decent but not extensive and includes local beers. This place appears popular with most tables occupied in the dining room. Plenty of TVs to watch sports (Olympics at the time) with a variety of sports on for viewing.
I expect to return during future business trips. The food was great, service comfortable, and location for...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Union Grill and Tap and was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the patty melt cooked medium well, no bun, paired with the roasted red pepper soup, and it was perfection. The soup was rich and thick—so much so that I recommend skipping the oyster crackers. I added a dash of buffalo sauce from our wing appetizers, and it was a game-changer.
Speaking of wings, we tried the Cajun and chili garlic varieties, and both were exceptional. To complement the meal, I had two sangrias and a January Skies cocktail, which were perfectly balanced and refreshing.
Our waitress, Reina, was fantastic. Attentive and personable, she elevated the dining experience. There was a minor issue with one plate in our group, but Reina and the manager addressed it proactively without us even mentioning it—talk about excellent customer service!
Union Grill and Tap is a must-visit for great food, amazing drinks, and stellar service. Highly recommended!
Went back for another visit:
Union Grill & Tap in Gilbert, AZ is my new favorite spot! We ordered the Brussels sprouts and 2 lbs of smoked wings; hands down the best wings I’ve ever had. The meat literally fell off the bone and was packed with flavor. I also had the Aperol Spritzer fish with a vegetable medley and coleslaw. Even though it was just one vegetable, everything was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Excellent food, great atmosphere;...
