Went to a funeral for a neighbor today and thought we would stop for lunch at First Watch after the service. We've eaten at the Gilbert location a few times and have always had a good experience. Today my waitress recommended the special Socal breakfast burrito because it is seasonal. As I started eating the first half I noticed a strange taste. I thought it was a new spice I just didn't care for so I used ranch dressing to try and cover it up. By the time I got to the second half the bad taste was really strong and I stopped eating it. We paid and left. I started getting ill as soon as we got in the car. By the time I got home I barely made it to the restroom to vomit for about 30 min. My huband called the restaurant to inform them there was something bad in the burrito and was transferred to the GM, Robin. She proceeded to get defensive insisting it wasn't the food and that it takes 6 hours for signs of food poisoning to show. He didn't say it was food poisoning and we were just calling to inform them to investigate something that was clearly bad. It was the only thing I ate so far that day and there is not a doubt in my mind that something was bad. I blame myself for continuing to eat it, but was blown away by how poorly the GM handled the issue. We are not sue happy nor were we looking for a free meal. We simply called to try and prevent anyone else from getting sick. I am 50 years old and have never in my life claimed to be sick from any food before. This was an awful experience and sadly we will not return because of the GM, not because of the food. Management needs to be trained how to be a little more concerned about the welfare of their customers. A little kindness and compassion go a long way for most people. I hope no one else got sick because she didn't want to be bothered with...
Read moreIf I could give negative stars I would. The manager of this overpriced and rather bland restaurant gave my wife an anxiety attack after setting up an interview for a food prep position.
We arrived 40 minutes early to try the food together, and check the vibe. We told the host to let the manager know she was there early for her interview so we could eat. The host said we should finish our food and then she could do the interview. We asked again, are you sure thats ok, to which he said "He is busy now anyway, take your time." So when she was done, 5 minutes after the scheduled time for the interview (after being there for 45 minutes) the manger told my wife "I am no longer interested because you are late" ... She came back to the table dumbfounded and sad. Being an extremely kind person, she didn't want to go back and explain the miscommunication with the host. Being a good husband, I did. I told this manager exactly what occurred, called over the host who agreed that he said the things he said. The manager then said, "Ok thats fine I'll interview her now." To which my wife replied "No, I'm no longer interested."
The host was trying to be nice, but the manger jumped to conclusions. Not only did he not even apologize, and lose a great potential culinary artist on his team, he lost two potential customers for life because he doesn't communicate with his team. At. All. Aren't restaurants in need of good workers???
My wife broke down in the car thinking it was her fault. Obviously it was the poor management at this subpar establishment. Not sorry, just truth. Hand to God this is what happened.
Oh and the quinoa breakfast bowl sucked my balls. Probably should hire better cooks, like my...
Read moreWhile this isn't my first time at a First Watch, it is my first time to this one in Arizona. And from what I can see, if you want to eat here and it's near a holiday, make sure you make reservations or you're going to wait for a very long time. This is a smaller location without a bar. I went on the Saturday before Mother's Day around 10:00 a.m. and the line was pretty long. I did get on the wait list. It was about a 45 minute wait. I anticipate lines every single time. I know people get impatient when they have to wait that long. I went ready to kill time. The hostess was amazing. She made sure that I was taken care of. I wish she told me her name down so I can shout her out. The waiter was great too and he made sure my food was accurate and he answered all my questions that I had. On my visit they had a Mother's Day menu and a spring menu. I tried the Pineapple Express drink. It's non-alcoholic. I wish they could add rum to it. I thought it was quite refreshing. They happened to have a few alcoholic beverages. For brunch, I decided to have the frittata rustica. I want to try something different because I always get an omelette with chicken sausage. Overall, my experience was great, I loved the atmosphere. The staff was very kind and professional. I would recommend it but go with some patience to wait, especially on or near holidays. If you have never been to a First Watch, after you're done eating, they'll give you your bill and you pay for it at the register on your way out. The bathrooms were pretty clean. They were unisex. There is a parking lot in front of the...
