Culichis Urban Kitchen in Gilroy is an absolute gem and easily one of my favorite places to eat in the area. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a vibrant, upbeat atmosphere that sets the tone for an amazing dining experience. Whether you’re coming for lunch, dinner, or just drinks with friends, this place never disappoints.
What truly makes Culichis stand out is their unique blend of authentic Mexican cuisine and top-tier sushi. It might sound like an unexpected combo, but they pull it off perfectly! Their tacos are loaded with flavor, the birria is tender and juicy, and their mariscos (seafood dishes) are incredibly fresh and well-prepared. Then there’s the sushi — wow. You would never expect to find sushi this good in a Mexican kitchen, but it’s seriously on point. Creative rolls, great portions, and everything is plated beautifully.
Now let’s talk about the Michelottas — hands down the best I’ve ever had. They’re LOADED, bursting with flavor, and come with all the extras. It’s the kind of drink you order once and instantly crave again the next day. Pair one with their shrimp ceviche or aguachiles and you’re in for a real treat.
The customer service is another reason I keep coming back. The staff is always welcoming, friendly, and fast. You can tell they care about their customers and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The music, the decor, the overall vibe — everything works together to make it feel like more than just a meal. It’s an experience.
I live in the area and have eaten at a lot of restaurants in Gilroy, and I can confidently say Culichis Urban Kitchen is at the top of my list. It’s a great place to bring family, catch up with friends, or even celebrate a special occasion. The prices are fair, the portions are generous, and the quality is consistent every time.
If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out. This place is a hidden treasure in Gilroy and deserves way more attention. Do yourself a favor and check them out — you’ll...
Read moreThis place is fantastic! The portions are generous and well-served. I'm visiting the area for work, and after reading their reviews, I decided to give them a try. For lunch, I ordered the Aguachile Mango & Habanero, Aguachile Tamarindo, and Aguachile Divorciado for $24.99. It was the best ceviche-like dish I've ever had! (If you enjoy spicy food that makes you cry, this is the dish for you! 🔥😁) I also had a Baja taco, which was excellent as well. I loved my lunch so much that I came back for dinner!
For dinner, I dined in and had the M.O.C Roll for $18. It was incredibly fresh and tasty! Also had the Spicy Edamames $10 it was a huge portion and tasted amazing!
The atmosphere was lively and fun, especially with the live DJ they had on Friday night.
The customer service was outstanding, from our waiter Andres to one of the owners, Ashley, who checked in to see how our experience was going. She was so genuine and made me feel very welcome. I will definitely be dining here for the rest of my stay this weekend!
2nd day here and still maintains its 5-star review from yesterday! I had lunch & dinner again. Lunch was Salmoncito Hot & salsa. Dinner was to go and it was the Fajita Trio.
3rd day here and sad it's my last! The service was by far the best I've received in my travels. Andres is a great waiter! Today I had lunch to go & dinner with...
Read moreFusion confusion is real. The thought process behind asian-mexican fusion is great but just not excuted properly. First, menu was not bad. More like bar menu. I ordered novu sushi roll. The outside was deep fried i suppose as it was crunchy which gave my food the texture it needs. As far as flavor, the outside was greasy. The cream cheese filling was way too over powering and the rice was just too much. Those were the only 2 component i really tasted. Even though the sauce cuts down the richness of the dish but overall lacking in flavor. The meat had some sweet note flavor to it but gets lost and shrimp did not contribute to the flavor of the dish nor did the carrots and spring onions on the side. The concept of sushi and seafood was not clear in this establishment. In my own personal opinion, the proportion of rice to filling was not good. They did however execute presentation well. Photo below. I think if they marinate the beef more and add more in the dish rather than just putting 2 sm pcs, and less rice, then it would probably enhance the flavor of the dish or maybe hickory...
