Very disappointed!
We used to go to the original location a lot when we lived in Hollister in the 90's. We moved out of state in 2005. We had a day in SF after returning from a cruise and before flying out of SFO late afternoon so we decided to check out some of our old haunts.
We were so glad to see that Pinocchio's was still in business, we made the trip to Gilroy. We saw conflicting reports online of their hours, some sites said they opened at 1pm (which seemed really late for Saturday lunch), others said it was 11am. We got there about 12:45 and found that they did indeed open at 1pm.
We decided to stick around. When they opened, we found it was takeout only, even though the website said they offered "dine in".
Since we had made the trip down to Gilroy, we were going to order and go find a picnic table somewhere but then we saw a sign that said they had no paper plates or red pepper...
That sealed it. We felt bad that they were in the state they seemed to be in but decided to get lunch at the Mexican...
Read moreDelicious. Authentic and creative. The food and service is fantastic. I give ratings based on reality, not just 5 stars because of one reason. The reality of this place is, well, its over priced. Come here for a treat, but i cant visit on a monthly basis if a stromboli and two drinks plus tip is going to equal grocery shopping for a week. As for pizza, competition is fierce. Pieology is right down the street- 10$ pizza for all the toppings you want, and dont worry about tipping. This is a niche restaurant. Fantastic in theory, but you will be paying for authentic quality ingredients. The building its self seems victim to degredation of its neighbours. But like a diamond in the rough, only few will be able to discover and enjoy this piece of...
Read moreAs a native Gilroyan, I grew up with Pinocchios. Most Gilroyans will say it's a must. It's been 20 plus years since I've had their pizza. My wife and I were in town and decided to get their pizza. My wife lives a low carb lifestyle so she only eats cauliflower crust pizza. Pinocchios unfortunately was the worst she ever had. The pizza, a pepperoni, sausage and garlic I believe, lacked flavor and the crust was so soggy that the pizza was inedible.
As far as location goes, since I hadn't been in 20 plus years, I was not aware that the location was pickup only. Luckily we were invited to my sister's, so we had a place to eat our terrible pizza. I'm sorry Pinocchios but this just wasn't an...
