Taqueria Y Mariscos Chapala — Restaurant in Gilroy

Just ok. Nobody goes out to eat for " just ok". Hard to get a hold of a waitress when you need her. 3 times we looked around taking turns trying to get someone's attention. That should never be a big part of the dining experience. 4 tables to wait on only, with 4 staff. Staff busy talking to each other (or flitacious male patrons) to notice.

One order of fajitas de asada: too much onions and peppers, not enough carne. One order of fajitas de pollo: pollo overcooked and dry. Battered shrimp appetizer was good but spicy.

We the only gringos around, but hopefully that had nothing to do with the less than stellar experience. We realize this is a restaurant whose clientele is mostly Mexican. We always see it busy, so we hoped that meant good authentic Mexican food. I think we'll keep searching for good Mexican food in Gilroy. There seems to always be just one waiter/waitress. Place has gone down hill. Food is a tad greasy, chips were old salsa lacked flavor and there was a hair in my food. When I advise the waitress she gave a side smile as though she knew where it came from. Rice and beans were ok but have to say save your money. Certain menu items say avacado is in the dish yet your plate shows up missing it. When asked they reply,"oh we're out". All 3 of our plates showed up at different times. We order Chavelas(something I always order when I go there) and we were over charged(12.99 because she said they were custom. It was wonderful, I had the fish tacos and they just melt in your mouth. Waitresses have been very sweet. Love this place I went back to the restaurant had the same dish it was wonderful

Came back a year later and I could not believe how empty the restaurant was for one thing. And ordering was difficult. It seems like the menu is different. I ordered an enchilada with beans and rice and my enchilada was so small. It was dry, no sauce on top. It was the worst enchilada, i've ever had.
