The waitress was lovely, the food itself was consistent to how it always is and it would have been a fine meal if we hadn’t found plastic in our pizza. Now, sooner or later every place will have an accident and my wife and I aren’t going to yell or demand free items, but the expectation is that the error is owned. That is not what happened at Giovanni’s. The manager claimed that the pieces of plastic that my wife literally chewed on were resin from the brick oven. If someone who had the pieces in their mouth is telling you they are bits of black plastic, I would err on the side that they know better than you as a person looking at the pieces. If touched, it would have been easily determined to be plastic. We won’t go again simply because they would not be honest and, more importantly, keep an eye out for others’ potential food contamination, which is shocking and disheartening. This stinks because we have been going for years for casual dinners or big life events- when we bought our house, when we were laid off of our last job, shortly after we had our son. The waitresses and bartenders are always nice ladies and we liked the food, we watched their outdoor area become what it is today. We rooted for them through Covid. I would say the manager is more at fault for our not returning than whomever in the kitchen made the actual error that led to pieces of plastic landing in our pizza. Beware, other patrons, as they clearly would prefer to cover up rather than own up and what else would they be willing...
Read moreOur first and very likely last visit. $53.00 for a large pie with mushroom, olives, pepperoni and artichokes and a small pie no cheese (just dough and tomato sauce for my 9 y/o boy)????? This place is even more expensive than Pepe's in New Haven and at least at Pepes we got white clams and generous toppings. Despite the ridiculous price, Giovanni's toppings were extremely ungenerous. The pepperoni pieces were the smallest I've ever seen and averaged only about 3-4 pieces per slice (two of the slices had only 2 pieces!!), we needed a microscope to see the little mushroom chips and even the cheese was sparse! I've been a pizza lover for five decades, having dined at the original Ray's in NYC, to Chicago's Angelo's, Giordanno's and Pizzeria Uno (before it franchised) to New Haven's Modern APizza and this is absolutely the worst pizza I have ever eaten. My wife felt exactly the same. Oh, and to add insult to injury Giovanni's messed up the order giving us anchovies instead of artichokes. I really do not understand how this establishment received a single favorable review. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreSo, you are asking yourself, "what makes this pizza joint any different than any other?"
Flavor, variety, and quality sets this place apart from the rest. They offer all of the usual toppings and they also have unique monthly specialty pizzas that include not-so-common toppings like potato, sour cream, and German sausage (homage to Octoberfest)
This is a great place to have lunch and/or dinner. They offer plenty of space for small and large groups. They have a nice patio seating (seasonal to weather) for the warm and sunny days.
I usually go here for lunch and they offer pizza-by-the-slice. I enjoy their "meat stuffed pizza" which is a large slice plenty for most appetites. Once in a while I will go for a slice of the "buffalo chicken". They offer vegetarian slices too. On average they have around 10 varieties of pizza-by-the-slice.
The staff are always courteous and friendly, the atmosphere is casual dining.
In addition to pizza, they offer soups, salads,...
