A friend recommended Dazzo’s to me, and today I made it a point to try them for lunch. They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays; so today was my first opportunity to come here. I was a bit enthusiastic 🤩 looking at the reviews. I made it in good time from Surprise. There’s adequate parking, and a drive thru. If you come to dine-in, be aware there are no bathrooms. I checked out the menu asking a few questions. They don’t serve a true Chicago style hot dog 🌭. What they dress on their Vienna beef franks is onions, relish, mustard, and hot peppers on a poppyseed bun. Fries are included with each hot dog. It’s like Gene & Jude’s back in Chicago; only no pickle. It’s a cool place; with a lot of history. The owner was there to show me a few photos. He has an uncle who was a professional prize fighter… bantam middleweight (?). I’ll have to Google 🔍 more, and return to try their Italian beef. The food is pretty good for the price. The only thing that disappoints me is no bathroom. The distance is not too bad, and coming around 3:00 helped to avoid traffic. Total after tax my bill came to $16.85. An overcharge that they rectified the following Thursday. Nice to know they show integrity in doing the right thing. Give them a try if you’re in the area.
Update 10/17/25: Came craving a Gene & Jude’s style hot dog. It didn’t disappoint. Noticed they have pizza puffs, and wanted to go down memory lane from when having one of these over 40 years ago back in Chicagoland. It’s just as I remember how...

Read moreI'm Chicago born and raised and am used to having Italian beef sandwiches as much as 3 or 4 times in a week. I have had some of the very best and so I'm a bit "picky". This place was recommended by friends (not from Chicago) so I joined them for lunch but it was for me a big disappointment.
While they make their own Italian beef every day and mine was obviously freshly made, the seasoning was weak and I think the beef wasn't allowed to cook long enough to absorb the flavor in the gravy. Frankly, I can make better Italian beef at home. Service was extremely slow at the counter because the counter person is also doing much of the food prep for each order. And I was shocked by the higher prices than I'm used to at other Phoenix places especially for adding sweet peppers to my order. The indoor atmosphere has gotten old and dated with terribly faded photos of Chicago landmarks.
The appearance of the dining area makes one wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen and staff. Worse yet, there is no restroom facility at all which is a must for washing your hands after getting the juices from your Italian beef sandwich all over your hands. One visit was enough for me and I would have been better off declining my...
