This place used to be one of my fav restaurants in Glendale. Their food is amazing (almost always) but the service is horrible. This review is about the manager who has zero respect towards customers, is not able to solve problems, talks in an arrogant manner and overall has NOTHING to do with customer satisfaction. About 3 weeks ago I placed a large pick up order. They forgot to put my salad. I called and they said that they were not delivering, if I wanted I could go back and get it. I couldn’t go back because my lunch time is not endless. I asked them to refund it. I was upset but it felt better when later on that day someone called from Islands, apologized, said the refund was in process and asked how they could so it better next time. As mentioned before, I like their food and I wasn’t going to drop them because of this not so pleasant incident. They offered me a gift card, I said there’s no need, but the staff member insisted on sending a gift to my address. A week ago O placed another large order. This time they forgot to put a burger. We ordered with ubereats because it was again for the lunch. Today was the most memorable day! I placed the order, my friend went to pick it up and checked if everything was in there. She counted like ok we have 3salads, 4 burgers, etc etc. When she brought the food it turned out that they messed up on my salad AGAIN. They added chicken to a strawberry salad while I mentioned specifically NO CHICKEN. But that was the least frustrating thing. I called and the manager started telling me that it was our fault, we should’ve checked before picking up. My question is “Is there any other psychopath on this planet who stands in the restaurant, opens the salad or sandwich and digs to see if all ingredients are in place???” I am saying "any other" because he was telling me that's what he did every time picking up from other restaurants. And no, gift card was never sent btw. This manager is a joke. I hope the people who hired him will read this review and send him to basic...
Read moreEvery Islands smells the same, why? It's the first and recurring question I ask myself every time I return, which is often.
A little bit of Islands personal history, at the age of 20, I ate a full order of the cheese fries at least three times a week, I had gotten a job hosting at the now defunct Calabasas Islands and gained about 25 pounds as a result. They were so delicious. My love affair for the cheese fries has never abated, even though I was able to lose the weight! I have a personal bias for Islands, and I have to declare it now.
We heard about the new Impossible option at Islands, and we knew we had to check it out! This trip was enjoyable as always. A friendly staff, the host sat us quickly, and the server was there just as prompt. They took our order, refilled our drinks, got us our food, which included an order of the aforementioned cheese fries as an appetizer, and served us the impossible burgers, which we were there to try out and enjoy. You know, they were pretty darn good. Not the best, but really good, and a nice option for the vegetarians. The whole meal for three, without any alcoholic drinks or desert was nearly 90 bucks, which is pretty expensive for three, but not horrible either, plus my wife tips very well, which probably added ten dollars to the total.
Overall, Islands new impossible burger was pretty well cooked, but it did fall completely apart while we were eating it. I don't know if they know how to package it properly yet, hopefully that will change. The fries, service and atmosphere, always great. I will return, but I might set a price limit to avoid such an...
Read moreOrdered "The Big Wave" burger, and that was disappointing. Where"s the beef? The patty was thinner than my fingernail! A Jumbo Jack is much thicker. It was a lettuce, onion, and tomato burger with a hint of beef. On the plus side, my wife is disabled and we asked if "happy hour" was still on. 'Yes, but only in the bar area, which requires a lift. Also, once "up" it's just tall tables. Very uncomfortable. The manager came by our booth and said:"No worries." We were allowed to enjoy happy hour in a comfortable booth. Thank you for that. The drinks were adaquate, but a little stingy on the alcohol. But in Islands defense, the "Big Wave burger was on special for ten dollars, includes fries. At that price it was worth it. Anymore than 10 bucks I would feel ripprd off. The Fried Chicken sandwich was very good. The burgers shiould resemble that. Also, the screens in the dining were playing football as was the bar. Keep it tp the bar! If you must have sceens play nice images of beaches, and waves. Pretty stuff. Play nice music. Sports should only be in the bar. The staff was terrific, and we will return for happy hour, but the burgers...
