I walked in and the place was dead. There was a lady behind the counter that spoke broken English and that wasnt even the worst part. She assumed I was not Armenian so she spoke very rudely about me with her coworker thinking I wouldn't understand the language. Lady at the counter - "Gena tes eti incha uzum" I was immediately turned off, seating outside waiting listening to them gossip. The place was completely dead, and there was not one walk-in while I was there for the last hour, this tells you a lot about the business, it wasn't even late, only 2 PM on a weekday. The waiter came out, I spoke to him in Armenian, he looked amazed. I ordered food and drinks, he left and didn't come back with any drinks until the food was ready. When I saw the mountain of rice, I expected for them to bring out salt, pepper and maybe some packets of butter like all the other middle eastern or Armenian bbq restaurants. The waiter only brought me one packet of butter and he had to go back and forth to get salt & pepper, they really seemed like they wanted to go home or maybe this is how they work all the time. I ordered hot tea, it came without any sugar or spoon on the side, I to ask him for that also. I am not being picky, these are minimums you expect at a sitdown restaurant, whether it be casual or not. I understand this place isn't the four seasons but you would expect some hospitality from a Persian Armenian establishment. Had to ask for napkins, had to ask for every single common item and it was brought out one by one. The worst part about the experience was the slickness of the way they try to get cash. The rude lady went home by the time I was ready to pay, so the waiter was the one charging me, he told me that the credit card machine wasnt working and that I could only pay cash. I immediately sensed that this not so clever high school drop out was trying to pull a fast one. I told hime that I dont have anything besides my debit / Visa card. Well, guess what happend, the machine started magically working. Next he told me that the real reason they can't take credit card is because the minimum credit card orders are $25, which I replied to him to have a bigger sign and or warm people that seat outside. His excuse was that he is just an employee and these are orders from the owner. The owner should stop trying to either run from taxes, or stop trying to avoid credit cards due to charge backs, which leads them to profile people, mostly younger customer. I've seen this bs from many low level middle eastern or Armenian restaurants with not so clever owners. You don't take card, have a big sign up and alert every single customer because in 2018, almost nobody carries cash. The not so bright waiter finally takes my card charges me and proceeds to throw the blame on the owner. Even if it's TRUE, that doesn't change the fact that you're a below average waiter and a bad liar. I will never come back here because the experience was such a turn off it made the food taste bad. This is what you call leaving with a bad taste...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wish I could give them more than 5 STARS. They definitely deserve it. A cozy place. Very clean. GREAT quality food. Reasonable price and portions. An outstanding service, the kind that makes you feel at home. let me tell you a little about some of the items on their menu. Apetizers !!!!! Oh! Don't forget to taste their bean tomato salad. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. Salt, spice, tomato sauce, exactly the way it's supposed to be. Not greasy at all. If you're an IKRA lover, go for it. The best! I have had their chicken kabob, their Zereshk polo, Baghali polo . ALL outstanding. Last but not least, their Koubideh ( ground beef kabab ) is the most delicious that I have had in years. We had a little piece, leftover that we ate the next day, was as good as the first day. That's how you know that the meat is VERY fresh. The owners and everybody working there, treat you like family. Oh! One more thing, don't forget to taste their desserts with their nice Persian tea. Their Bamias !!!!! Out of this world. Ask for Baklava. They'll bring them in cute individual packages. Perfect for those watching their dietš just have a little bite. You don't have to eat the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAn unassuming kebab restaurant in the land of kebabs.
Moon Mart is a local hangout for many neighborhood folks. A fixture and kind of a water cooler spot to have a familiar meal. A small dining room is adorned with a an ample size patio area for additional dining space. The small kitchen may be filled with a one or two person crew thus service may be slow on weekdays.
The food is also a bit low key compared to your standard restaurant affair. Nearly homestyle, flavors are clean and a tad under seasoned like the usual manner. This all makes quite an average culmination of flavors, but still very appetizing. The portions are decent. Plate sizing can be shared or taken come to enjoy again.
As for kebabs sake, the quality is good. Somewhat above par and yet not great. Except for the some sides such as their fresh tzatizki sauce and hummus, which is the best I have had.
The service is friendly and caring, just may be a little slow. Take away is available and certain a good choice. Pricing is also a little...
