This place is a mixed bag. Is the food good? - yes, if they prepared it right on a consistent basis. The first turn-off is a counter person taking a order, and automatically goes to a 20% or 22% tip screen. For a counterperson? This isn't even a table server. This isn't even a restaurant. It's a food counter place. They want their tip in ADVANCE? For doing WHAT? Here is an example of the food. Ordered omelette with breakfast potatoes and toast. Coffee. Comes out and coffee is luke-warm (not hot, and I LOVE their coffee), breakfast potatoes are still hard and uncooked on the inside. We ask for salt and pepper, and hot sauce. When does it come out? - after having to ask 2x the table runner going by. As much as I love this place, it's got a long way to go. Did they bring out any jelly for the toast? diid they ASK if we wanted any? Of course not, they are too busy getting to the tip screen. I have a suggestion for the place. If your people are not passionate about what the do, and serving people , go get a different kind of job. This is the hospitality business. Two of these employees had a very strong annoyed attitude whenver we requested anything. I wanted to cash-tip at the end of the meal, so I could gauge the service. Nope, the ydidn't get their 20% at order time, so you imagine the service. This is ALL WRONG. They should NOT have tipping at the order register. Bad, bad, bad. Oh, they had the breakfast potatoes out by the time we were almost already finished with our breakfast. Did they offer refills on the coffee? - of course not. This is such a beautiful dining place, it's a shame they can't get their act together. $20/hr minimum employees and these are how the workers are, and this is the best they can do? I have noted that the management has not responded to any negative reviews in almost 2 years....
Read moreI just left this restaurant after "trying" to have brunch there. Emphasis on "trying." Will never return again. The service was beyond poor and extremely slow. We ordered food and coffee; it took them 20 minutes to bring our coffee (we ordered an Americano and espresso... not very complex/time consuming coffee to make). Waitress apologized, explaining that they are very busy this morning. We were understanding and gave them the benefit of the doubt since the waitress seemed very sincere. The food came out about 15 minutes after, and the restaurant did not bring bread with my ordered (which is literally needed to eat the type of dish I ordered and is explicitly stated as an "ingredient" in the menu). I went back in to let the the waitress know who apologized and explained they would rectify the situation and bring out bread... well about 15 minutes later I still had not received anything (and my companion had already finished their meal). I went back in and made them aware that I was still waiting.... they finally brought the bread and apologized; the waitress asked if there was anything she could provide us with at no charge given the wait (she suggested a pastry). I took her up on the offer.... 30 minutes went by, never received the pastry. We left. Will never return again. Absolutely poor service. I initially wanted to give this place one more star because I do feel like the staff is working hard and running around... but i'm sorry... this was TOO much. I will be sharing this review with friends and advising them not to dine at Olia's. Absolutely awful,...
Read moreAfter walking by and seeing people's food in the window, we were really looking forward to eating at Olia. SO DISAPPOINTED! We arrived to learn there was no fruit to accompany the pancakes, french toast, etc. Really? I mean, walk to Trader Joe's, less than 1/4 mile away and get fruit - or any other grocery store near by. (Having done that myself when I worked at a restaurant.) Speaks to very poor management. They did give us $2 off when we requested it, but we would have rather had the fruit. (We should have left, but are from out of town and not 100% where else to go that was indoors, and were hungry.)
The pancakes were good - large and fluffy! The waffles were fine but had a lot of sugar on them. We wouldn't even eat the omelet because it was greasy. The potatoes were good, although they don't look as yummy as the ones in the pictures of other reviewers. The french toast was + & - . That's what looked so good through the window. The pieces that were sitting on the pan were greasy and burnt. The other pieces were very good. The cashier warned us it would be sweet without the fruit to "cut" the icing, so that was not an issue; we ate around it.
All of this, plus the table was sticky and the food came out separately - pancakes would have been cold if we'd waited for all the food to come out. We would have said something, but since the management had already proved to be lacking (and BTW, the manager never came out, just gave the cashier the approval to discount). Hopefully others have a...
