Here's the "partial scoop," solely based on ordering one quesadilla to go and waiting for it inside.
Employees all seem nice and the guy I ordered from at the register new the basics in English.
I got my quesadilla super fast!
My quesadilla was just under $7 AND came with a small bag of tortilla chips, a small cup of salsa, plasticware and a napkin. The quesadilla was in an aluminum pan with a plastic lid.
For the price, I was very impressed with the quesadilla mainly because I got the steak one & it had longer pieces of shredded steak. (Many places around here chop up the steak in smaller pieces.) Also, very little fat that I could detect! However, the downside was that the only thing it had on it was the steak and cheese, nada mas.
The tortilla chips were junk. Stale. Since I took the quesadilla home to eat, I ended up crushing up the chips and throwing them in my front yard "for the birds."
The salsa was the runny variety somewhat similar to Hacienda, and it was decent. Not very spicy, but I'm ok with that.
While I was up at the counter, I heard one of the workers expressing his frustration in Spanish (they didn't know this gringo knows the language somewhat well) to another worker regarding some things they ran out of back in the kitchen.
The seating looks great!
I personally am not a fan of the depictions of skulls, poker-playing, smoking and gun possession they have in their designs (including the main logo) of the place, but I guess that's part of la cultura they wanted to convey for some reason.
I love where they put their register versus when Casteneda was there, also that they have a large cushioned bench to sit on as you wait for your to-go order or for an open seat.
I went around 7:30 on a Tuesday and it wasn't very busy. Again, my order, even though it was one item, came out super fast!
They have applied for a liquor license, so that will be available sometime down the road.
Honestly, I may go back for more quesadillas or try their chimichangas.
Oh, by the way... They are expensive (to me, but maybe not given recent inflation and them wanting to pay workers well) for the most part. If you're getting a regular meal with drink, plan to pay at least $15 on...
Read moreI took off two stars, because the server got lost, we needed water and more shells, and he was gone for some time, we decided we didn’t want the water and shells anymore. The waiter couldn’t understand English, I had to use Translation through my cellphone to communicate. My personal feelings are, they need to employ bilingual servers. I shouldn’t have to use translation in America. I understand it’s a Mexican restaurant, and that’s what they do, but if I went to Mexico to dine, I would have to know Spanish. The last complaint was, I ordered a cocktail, pina colada in a pineapple, I’m girly and prissy so it was my vibe, only to take pictures and drink from it, to find out my pineapple is ROTTEN 🤮I have the server take it away, thinking this restaurant is a more pricey business, thinking they would apologize and ask me what drink I want on the house, nope! They ask me what’s another drink I like, I asked for a Pina coloda margarita, they brought me out a glass of white snow, similarly to a 7-11 slushie, it was Yuck! Artificial, full of sugar, and syrups, with no alcohol at all. So beware when ordering their margaritas, not close to a real margarita, a frozen glass of sugar. Our meal was good! We enjoyed our food, arrived hot in temperature, the salsa for the chips is very good. Also the dinnerware is dirty, I had to return two glasses of water, because there was dry food on the glass and inside. I also didn’t feel welcome, they kinda just stay active within themselves, and I don’t know if it’s because they can’t speak English, they stay distant. Don’t go asking for recommendations, they won’t...
Read moreMy friends and I were excited to try out El Patron. The wait wasn’t long and the atmosphere was great. I ordered a sprite to start off and it tasted like carbonated water, no biggie. I waited to let the server know so she could get me a new cup of sprite. After letting the server know, she didn’t seem too convinced that my sprite tasted like carbonated water and took it into her hands to drink out of my sprite cup to try it herself in front of our whole table. Me friends and I were baffled she drank out of the same cup as myself because she wasn’t convinced. The server then said, “Yes. You’re right it doesn’t taste good. That means we have no sprite. Order something else.” I then ordered Pepsi. I just thought that interaction was so bizarre? Usually servers offer their customers another drink with no question or hesitation? On the other hand, we remained kind and tried to avoid awkwardness between us after the strange interaction. As for their food, it wasn’t very seasoned or flavorful and needed lots of salt and lime. The majority of their food sauces taste from right out of the can. The food was pricey for the quality. I probably would’t go back again...
