UPDATE: 4/11/22
Carrie, the shop owner, did respond to my original review promptly. I greatly appreciate that. However, a resolution couldn’t be reached.
We came to determine that an honest miscommunication error took place when I originally placed the order. I stated that I wanted a red and bronze colored cake, with the finishing touches being left up to the baker. This somehow translated into a white cake with red and gold sprinkles. I stand by my statement that I ordered a red and bronze cake. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted my boyfriends cake to look like. I sent photos of his car so they could match the cake color to it. But the person who took down my order wrote down white cake with red/bronze sprinkles.
In their email, the owner asked if there was anything they could do to make my boyfriends birthday special. The birthday party was already over by the time this email conversation took place. I instead asked Carrie if they could refund 1/2 the cost of the cake, which would have been about $32. The baker could keep the full $13 tip. Carrie responded that they would only refund $15.
I believe my $32 refund request was fair. I understand time and materials went into the cake. And I don’t believe the bakers tip should be touched in anyway. The work was well done. And the birthday party goers stated the cake tasted good. However, half of what makes a birthday cake special is the decorating, and the way the cake was decorated was not what I ordered at all. In addition, the miscommunication error could have been caught before it was too late if the shop would have sent photos of the finished product before it was picked up, like I requested.
The offer of only $15 frustrated me even more. It felt like the owner did not want to take responsibility for two errors in communication and the disappointing final product. I’m not out to dis a small business or waste time trying to wrestle money out of a small business. But I paid $78 for something that wasnt what I ordered. I didn’t respond to Carrie’s email offer of $15. It’s no longer worth it. I wish I could have changed my review and left it on a positive note. But I can’t.
Overall, this is a good place to stop for a quick bite. Like I said, the birthday cake was good. But I would not order cakes or special event items here. The shops communication could be greatly improved. And the way they handled taking responsibility for honest errors can also be improved. Because of that I still give it 1-star
Original Review:
I am exceedingly disappointed and a little bit upset. The cake did not meet what I requested for decorating. I ordered a birthday cake for my long distance boyfriend for his birthday a couple weeks in advanced. To be picked up 2 hours before his birthday party by a friend. I asked for a red and bronze cake with the logo of his car, and happy birthday written on the top. But I ended up getting a white cake with red and gold sprinkles. While they got the sprinkles colors right, I just felt they maybe rushed the job or something. I ordered a red cake, and I thought I would be getting a red cake not a white one. I know it’s just a difference in food coloring, but I really wanted this to be special because I wouldn’t get to be there. This cake was part of his gift and I just really wanted it to match his car. I even emailed photos of his car to the shop. But the cake was just completely off the mark.
I didn’t get to see photos of the cake until the party had started. I had asked the bakers to send me photos of the cake to my cell in an email before it got picked up for this reason, but I never received any. And I wasn’t going to take away the cake from the party
Overall, I just really wished I could have gotten what I ordered and the shop communicated better. The people where nice, but just was not what I asked for. I just can’t express how excited I was to get a cake and surprise him. It just sucks that it wasn’t the wow thing I was hoping for. Especially...
Read moreWe recently booked Be Sweet for 8 dozen cupcakes for our wedding at the beginning of June and they were completely inedible and a quarter the size of a regular cupcake. We met with the pastry chef 4 months ago and the cupcakes were full size, and tasted great. A week before the wedding, I reached out and they didn’t realize that I had an order for the following weekend, let me know the pastry chef quit, and then promised the cupcakes would be made in time and look exactly the same as the ones I tasted (I sent them photos for reference of the cupcake I tried). The cupcakes we received were miniature after we ordered full size, completely inedible, little balls of crumbling purple dough with frosting on them. Nothing remotely close to the lemon blueberry cupcakes with bavarian crème filling we paid nearly 500 dollars for. The crème wasn’t inside the cupcakes, it was on top underneath the frosting. I called and they said they didn’t have any way to make it up to us or make a new batch. When we asked for compensation they denied the full refund they originally promised us. I will never be a customer at their store again. Photos below of the cupcakes I received and the last image is of the cupcake I tasted at the tasting when we purchased them. Luckily, our wedding venue had a chef willing to replace the cupcakes last minute for us just hours before...
Read moreThis place is an absolute joke. We scheduled a tasting for wedding cupcakes with them and ordered 96 lemon blueberry cupcakes. We were told at the tasting that what we sampled would be what we were getting. They were large sized cupcakes. A week before the wedding my wife called since she had not heard anything from them on our order. They informed her that their lead baker had just quit and that they now had no record of what our order was but had record of payment. We thought we got that all sorted out that day but we were very wrong. Come time to pick them up (day before our wedding) they gave us 4 small 12x12 boxes and said all 96 cupcakes were in there. They tiny little “cupcakes” if you can even call them that. They were more like balls of slimy dough hidden under a heaping pile of frosting. After tasting them it was very clear they completely botched the entire order. These so called “cupcakes” more closely resembled easy mix blueberry muffins that hadn’t even been cooked through. They were disgusting. Better yet they now refuse to offer a refund after completely ruining the order. I would not trust this bakery with any sort of an order like this. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Extremely disappointed in this place and will not be a customer anytime...
