I found The Hog and the Hen through an internet search when I was looking for catering for my mother's funeral reception. From start to finish, they had exceptional customer service and were incredibly helpful with logistical planning, especially considering that I am located in Denver and was not able to see anything in person ahead of time. Cooper recommended items that he knew would be crowd pleasers and reassured me that the number of items I was ordering would be enough; he even let me know that I was ordering too many items and should reduce the amount. The charcuterie boards and truffle tray were beautiful and had a delicious variety of items. And the sliders were a huge hit with our guests, we ordered the Barnyard, Fowl Play, Gardener, and Herbivore. One of our guests said that the Herbivore was "the best vegan sandwich I've ever had." Cooper hand delivered and set everything up for us at the mortuary and was even texting me that morning, offering to help with anything else we might need for the funeral service. Talk about feeling reassured that supporting his local business was the right decision! I would highly recommend using them for catering any event, or just to stop in and get something for yourself. The next time I'm in Grand Junction I plan to stop in for lunch to try some of the other sandwiches on their menu. Thank you to the entire Hog and the Hen team for making a stressful event a little...
Read moreI post this with severe disappointment. I discovered The Hog and The Hen some time ago and thought they were pretty special and unique. I enjoyed their selections so much that I purchased gift certificates for my friends and family at the holidays. Today my elderly father decided to go and use his gift certificate. He is medically exempt from wearing a mask per the mandate. Upon walking in he was met with extreme attitude. They offered him a mask & bless his heart he was willing to wear one just to appease the mask-hole who handed the mask over after touching it with his bare hands. He wanted a charcuterie tray as I have boasted about them. Again, he was met with extreme attitude. They wouldn't help him rudely stating that they need 24 hours notice for the trays. As if everyone is supposed to have that information magically programmed into their brains. Instead of being kind and courteous about the need for advanced notice they decided to act no more poised then a small child throwing a temper tantrum. They didn't offer my dad any other options like helping him pick cheese and meats to create his own tray, pointing him to their cracker selection, nothing. They offered nothing besides poor attitudes. It's a good thing they have plenty of cheese to go with...
Read moreHands down, this place is GJ's best kept secret! We went downtown for lunch today. The lines everywhere were crazy busy. We walked by this place, and they had a sign on the sidewalk "deli" among other; candy, treats, drinks. We went to the back of the store where the cold and hot sandwich menu hung on signs. They consider my picky eater friend and have build your own sandwich. She built her own and had a cup of soup. She loved her meal and said she was going back for more soup. I on the other hand couldn't make a decision, so I told the guy to make me whatever and surprise me. He asked cold or hot, and I picked hot on this rainy day. He made me the "heffer". Oh. My. Goodness. I think I inhaled that sandwich because I couldn't put it down! It was so delicious!!! Hands down, the best sandwich I've had in a long time! After work, I told my husband all about it and said he and the fire crew need to go for lunch sometime. Best. Kept....
