I'm not sure what all the fuss is about these donuts. I can understand if someone really loves a plain cake Donut. However, they're really boring. The toppings are just candy, maybe some icing. But they all tasted the same with some slightly different goo or crumbs on top. My nine-year-old liked them, because they seem like donuts for a 9-year-old. What about chocolate cake donuts, or cinnamon donuts that have cinnamon all through the batter? Yeast donuts and yummy blueberry donuts! I don't even think those flavors need anything on top because they're so delicious in themselves. In terms of watching them decorate donuts, there was nothing exciting.. They fried a couple donuts without a smile, and then the young lady behind the counter decorated them from tubes. Sprinkled some candy here and there. I have lived in Grand Rapids now for 7 years and I have still not found a better donut place than Sweetwater's in Otsego and Kalamazoo. The search will continue. Obviously people like this place, so that's good that it serves a population of people that like plain...
Read moreBro's makes fresh-to-order mini donuts. There's lots and lots of options between classics (like glazed or chocolate) and the slightly fancier creative flavors, and literally everything we had was warm and delicious.
The place is small, so don't expect to grab a chair and hang out, but don't wait too long before eating because you want them while they're still warm! There's coffee and juice available, but it's pretty standard stuff. The donuts are the focus here, everything else is an afterthought.
Expect a line and expect excited children. Everything is visible behind glass, so it's cool to see donuts being made. The kids there were especially transfixed on the donut production process.
Overall excellent donuts. It's not meant to replace your standard "pick up a dozen for work" type place. It exists more to show you how good a donut actually can be when freshly prepared with attention to detail.
If you like donuts or have kids that like donuts, you gotta check...
Read moreStopped by yesterday with a friend for the first time. Thought it sounded like a fun idea for "fresh" donuts. We had 2 - 3 other guests waiting in front of us. It was very quiet inside. Only one worker making fresh donuts and boxing them for the customer. No excitement, no one explaining the new experience or fresh donut idea. I don't think there was even any music but not sure just seemed very quiet and somber. After talking quietly with my friend for a few minutes we realized how long this could take. Also agree with other reviews that the price was quite high. I'm willing to spend that for a fun experience but it just wasn't happening. We left after a few minutes without the opportunity to try. Samples might be a good way to introduce as well but there needs to be some fun brought to...
