Probably one of the worst Indian buffets I've ever been to. Decided to give this place a try because of the good reviews online, but was extremely disappointed. If you had Indian food before, or have the slightest idea of what it tastes like, you will be disappointed too. The buffet selection was extremely small. Walking in, we considered walking away because of how small their selection looked but decided to give them a try, thinking that maybe they would provide quality over quantity. I was extremely wrong and disappointed. You'd think with an extremely small Indian buffet selection, they would at least have biryani. Nope. They served very bland fried rice that day. Paneer Malai tasted like it was going bad. Tandoori chicken was dry and flavorless. Everything was extremely under-spiced. Oh, and the biggest give way that this place is bad: the butter chicken. This had to be one of the most bland, watered down curries I've ever tasted in my life. Chicken looked like it had been shredded up, not cooked in a tandoor or even pan-cooked for that matter. The sauce it was cooking in was entirely watered-down cream, could not taste any tomato or spice at all. At most Indian restaurants, if not good, the butter chicken is one of those dishes that are always least decent. At this place, it's pathetic that this passes as butter chicken to them.
Not one dish was above average or even average for that matter. After trying a little bit of everything, my husband and I literally sat there wondering what we should fill ourselves/go back and get. That's when you know a buffet is really bad. I really do not understand why this place has 4.7 stars. Maybe they used to be good, and now they aren't? I've had Curry Leaf's buffet a few times now and a few other Indian restaurants in Grand Rapids, and this place is sad joke compared to all of them. If you are thinking about trying an Indian buffet, please go anywhere but here. Curry Leaf's buffet is literally a million times better than this for the same price so they literally have no excuse for having a selection and food this bad. Don't make the same mistake I did. The only thing I got out of what I paid for was a decent ambiance and service.
I've seen someone else rate their buffet badly below, needless to say my experience parallels theirs. Will not be going back or...
Read moreI could go on and on about the fine dining decor and very professional staff somehow placed into a strip mall setting, but this review is all about the food. It's absolutely amazing regional Indian cuisine that is prepared carefully and served immediately. Authenticity and proper ingredients are always the guiding principles of a great dining experience and that's why you will want to eat at Pind again. Many different Paneers and Masalas, Curries, Kaidawala and more are made with a perfect balance of cumin, clove, coriander, cinnamon, turmeric, fenugreek, and cardamon. Lunch or dinner- hell yes- both- in the same day for me! No, I don't need white tablecloths, cloth napkins with a funky fold and full black and whites for servers; neither do I look for cool design themes and superfluous affectations to "up sell" what should be about the only reason to dine out...just give me some great food and I'm happy. This is where Pind is at, though it has everything else mentioned above too. The menu is huge, replete with five or more pages of vegetarian dishes, lamb that will haunt you until you return, or when you chow the to-go box full of chicken this- or seafood that- at the red light on the way home. Portions are built for America's culture of excess and you will definitely not leave hungry. The kitchen "gets it" when it comes to an accurate heat scale too...I like about an 8, and the chef gives me an 8. I usually go there with fours and fives and they seem very happy with their food and wimpy heat index, so I guess it's not a logarithmic spice allocation. Nope, it's just right. So yes- Grand Rapids, just go to Pind for a memorable dining experience and I can pretty much guarantee an Uber Eats delivery to your door or lunch there the next day; maybe a lamb and chicken love affair before the week is out. This is the place your friends will thank you for turning them on to...but at least try to talk them up from an uninspired 4 or 5...
Read moreThe moment we had to pay for parking, it was a good Indication about the not so good things to follow. We went to the buffet because of all the good reviews. Once inside you are greeted with a section of a small buffet and then you are like where is the rest?. Folks, that is the entire buffet. Probably the smallest buffet I have ever seen in my life. That there was again a good indication to turn back but we were like let's just go ahead and try it out. The only reason we came here was because the restaurant is "Halal" , Although they don't mention any of that on their website. Once we went inside, one of the waiters(who appears to hate his job & life in general) literally "ordered" us to sit at a certain spot if we were there for the buffet. Anyways, we went ahead and had the most disappointing tiny buffet. Everything was cold and bland except a couple of things. The Dum biryani was drenched in oil. Who puts so much oil in biryani?. The Chicken Tikka had no taste. The okra was not cooked properly . They don't serve you roti till you are half way through your meal. Of course the Pakora tray was empty the entire time. For some reason all of the waiters refuse to smile even when we constantly kept saying thank you to them when they were taking away our used plates or filling up the water.
But wait! There is more. As I went back to the buffet, one of the cooks who was getting his lunch from the buffet literally just dunked his filthy hand in the Chicken Tikka tray and grabbed a piece with his bare fingers while making eye contact with me. Wow that's just next level of hygiene. The whole staff needs a full on course about service & Hygiene.
Will not recommend this restaurant to anyone nor are we...
