The building is absolutely gorgeous, a stunning testament to quality. The restaurant is also beautiful but very loud because of its location in the building. For this reason, and because it was a beautiful night, we asked to eat outside. There were dozens of empty seats but we were told several large parties were coming so we could not dine outside. Maybe the parties never arrived but our inside seating gave us a perfect view of the outside, with empty tables the whole evening.
The food itself was mostly a disappointment. Personally I eat out for the food more than the atmosphere. Three people at our table ordered the lobster ravioli, which was actually cheese ravioli with some lobster on top, swimming in at least a 1/2 cup of butter. None of the 3 people finished their 4 ravioli. Another entree was the halibut which is a wonderful fish. This was tasteless and the gigante bean plaki was overly acidic. I even ordered bread to try to cut it and the bread tasted two days old. The fifth person of our group had the scallops which they felt was delicious.
This is just personal preference but I also do not care for ordering everything a la carte. I feel part of the cooking experience is the blending of the main course with side dishes and salads to create a taste sensation of different textures and flavors. If I am just picking food items not paired I might as well be at a buffet. But that's just my personal preference.
The service was very good and the people were extremely nice. I was asked directly about the food so I gave my honest opinion and they removed the halibut from our bill (Not my intention but a nice gesture). By the end everyone was ready to leave. There are so many restaurants out there...at this price range you have to be really good and that means really good food. This restaurant did not rise to that level. Would not recommend.
April 23, 2021 This is an update to my previous review. Following the above review I was contacted by restaurant management and decided to give the restaurant another try. I was quite impressed with how they handled the situation, listened to my concerns and actually made some changes. So our party of 5 returned two weeks later. The staff was excellent as before and greeted us quickly and seated us immediately. I was surprised that within minutes of being seated the Director of F&B came out to meet us and introduce herself (I still don't know if she was actually working that night or made a special point of being there...if it was the latter, I am overly impressed).
They brought out several appetizers which were delicious. The charcuterie board was particularly good and contained some outstanding cheese selections. Our main dishes were all on the mark and they changed the halibut dish (which I had again) from a tomato based dish to halibut over a pesto risotto-- an excellent decision and a scrumptious meal. We had several side dishes, family style, with the charred leek mashed potatoes standing out. We ended by splitting 2 desserts amongst our party of 5, which ended the dinner perfectly.
The effort this organization put into satisfying an originally dissatisfied customer is nothing short of impressive. It proves and old adage in business, "It's not the mistake that matters, it's how you deal with it and how you learn from it." In this regard I give the staff (and particularly the Director of Food & Beverage) at Bacchus...

A one word review: Underwhelming
A little longer review: So first off this is a mid-upper tier boutique restaurant in an upper tier boutique hotel. So my expectations were based on that. Very nice sophisticated atmosphere, but didn’t seem too pretentious. Overall I give high marks for the aesthetic of the restaurant and hotel.
Upon approaching the hostess area it was several minutes before the hostess, looking a bit casual and disheveled for the atmosphere finally approached. Her greeting was basic and she showed us to our table. When my wife asked if there might be a different table with a little better view she was just told flatly “no” and all the other tables were reserved. Ok, no problem but she could have handled that better and at least checked it made us feel like she did.
Our waitress was nice but frankly was a bit out of her league for a restaurant of the caliber this place wants to be. There’s a level of proactivity you see among the servers at the best restaurants, even among the support staff, bussers etc. Our entrees arrived and the busser took our salad bowls and left us staring at rapidly cooling dinners with no way to eat them. Our server was nowhere to be found so I grabbed flatware from the vacant table next to us.
The entrees were ok, decent. The lobster tortellini sounded amazing and looked like a bowl of soup. Drippy and sloppy with big chunks of the worst, toughest, most overcooked lobster ever. Outback has better lobster. Whoever devised that presentation should just be fired. Sorry, not sorry.
I ordered the halibut which was the highlight of the meal and actually a well executed and overall excellent dish. The crème sauce adds nice flavor to this light fish and the presentation worked well together. The portion was big, more than I could eat, so our cat and dog feasted on the remains of both our entrees.
Which brings me to the end of the meal when we asked for a takeout box. Typically the server would take the plates and box everything, no offer was made for that, which wasn’t a big deal but we were just handed a box and she walked away. Ok, no problem but in a place like this you’re usually given a bag to go with the box and none was given. When asked I was given a bag 3 times too big. Mmmkaaaay…..
Additionally the wine list was a little weak and the appetizers like the empanadas we ordered were just ok….
For me the whole experience especially for an anniversary was underwhelming. Staying at the hotel, just wanting a nice meal with mid tier expectations, this place is fine. But it definitely won’t make my list of drive across town places to revisit. Exception: I would try the outdoor dining bubbles they have if only for the fun novelty of...
Read moreAs a chef, I do my best to be objective when visiting more upscale restaurants. I was invited to a birthday event with some friends at Bacchus on a very, very busy Saturday night. Upon entering the restaurant, it had an incredible atmosphere. The hostess was extremely friendly, and the decor was indicative of being considered upscale. The service was a 3. Our waiter started strong but ended poorly with our party of eight. Our dinner started at 6:17p, order taken at 6:25p 1st appertizer arrived 6:57p. Entrees arrived at 7:55p. I understand wait times, but wow. On to the food. Subpar. There was a lack of flavor across the board. The mussels and clams were the best, and they were a 3 at best. My friends ordered medium rare and medium well Steaks, and they got each others steak. In addition, the steaks lacked flavor. Some salt and pepper goes a long way. The chicken dish had no dynamic and no flavor. The Fried pork chop, meh. To add insult to injury, my ravioli was 🥶 🧊 ☃️ (cold), but the chef did re-fire the dish, and the cheese was now pulling away from the ravioli. The pasta could have used some seasoning, even a dash of pepper. We thought maybe the dessert would bring it home, nope. The banana bread dessert was doughy and lacked the sweetness to be considered a dessert. The chocolate bomb had a description of creme brulee, but it had no custard or caramelized sugar or anything resembling a creme brulee. For the price I excepted better. To add insult to injury, when we told our server, Tyler, about the steak issue, we were informed we could get a free drink on our next visit. Really? Poor service, subpar food, desserts with incorrect descriptions, and drink refills were slower than paint drying. We paid the auto gratuity, the alcohol tax (even though we didn't have alcohol), and all the other taxed fees....
