Arrived and were seated upstairs on the patio. Service and personality was friendly. The upstairs patio was really nice. Nice view of downtown Grapevine. Wind shield and warmers were out so it was comfortable.
The atmosphere was loud. Really loud for Sunday brunch. This probably varies from day to day depending on the patrons but we had a noisy bunch and it was difficult to hear without talking really loud.
Live music was provided and it was really good. We thoroughly enjoyed the artist and gave them a good tip.
The food. This is where the experience went downhill. The coffee was enjoyable and my wife had a bloody Mary. I made the mistake of eating the bacon that came with the bloody Mary. It was candied and rancid as if they found it on the side of a Texas highway in the summer. Legitimately the worst bacon I've had in my entire life. The drink itself was fine. I don't know why they served it with roadkill bacon.
The charred cauliflower was not charred in the least bit. It was steamed and they dumped a vat of yogurt on top of it instead of adding it on the side as something to dip the cauliflower in. The nut mixture they sprinkled on top did not help at all. How difficult is it to char a vegetable and present it as such.
The Texas hash comes with two eggs anyway you like it. I asked for it to be well done. The egg was runny and the yolk wasn't solid at all. They need to just say "runny yolk eggs" on the menu. The sausage was tolerable. The potatoes were cooked well but lacked in flavor.
My wife's omelette was fair. They topped it with a lot of cheese that smelled sweaty. It's the kind of cheese you see in the back of the fridge and you tell yourself that cutting off the moldy part will make it okay. It was just Swiss. Nothing extravagant but again they seem to excel at ruining the simple things. Her potatoes were the same. When I saw her adding salt I knew it was a miss. She never salts her food.
In short, this place can ruin bacon but the views are nice if you don't mind the volume. There are better places to eat...
Read moreMy best friend and I were so excited to try this restaurant in Grapevine. I have lived here for 36 years and this place has been on my list. It is in a great location overlooking Main Street Grapevine. The atmosphere was incredible. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the street. We were super excited to order.
We decided to share a bunch of appetizers. We ordered the Wild Mushrooms Risotto, Warm Goat Cheese, Fried Calamari and Brussel Sprouts.
Wild Mushroom Risotto (5/10) This was good, not great. There were mushrooms and truffle oil but then there was this stringy vegetable mixed in that just made it hard to eat. You couldn't even chew whatever it was.
Warm Goat Cheese (1/10) Awful. What even was this? It was a cold ball of goal cheese with 3 pieces of very stale bread. AWFUL. We couldn't even smear the goat cheese on the bread. The bread just broke apart.
Fried Calamari (1/10) The WORST calamari I have ever had. The calamari was COLD and very very chewy. By the time the server came back around to check on the us it had been 10 minutes and we were just over it. None of it was eaten.
Brussel Sprouts (7/10) Highlight of the meal. These were so good with crunchy nuts and a great sauce.
THEN we decided to order the tiramisu. Our server brought a Betty Crocker baking dish to our table and scooped out the tiramisu and PLOPPED it on a plate. It was complete mush. The least appetizing dish I have ever seen.
AFTER 15 minutes we were finally checked on and brought our check.
Truly left unsatisfied and disappointed for the amount we paid. I will be telling everyone in Grapevine to not try this place AND I will not recommend it to anyone. Hopefully they can make this right and fix...
Read moreExceptional cuisine in the heart of downtown Grapevine. Found at the north end of Main Street, it's two-tier structure can be easily missed, unless you spot the blue sign with the trademark bird perched on it. Stepping inside at ground level, you'll find a beautiful small restaurant with muted lights and colors. If that isn't your style, head up the elevator to the balcony, for a vibrant, colorful scene with a great view of downtown.
The service was pretty good...we lost our server for brief moments, but they always had what we were looking for when they showed up. The French Old Fashioned was good, though the inclusion of brandy may be a shock to the traditialists. We snacked on the beef carpaccio before entrees, and while it's layout of thinly sliced meat with greens and mustard aioli piled on top requires some work to eat, it was worth it. My wife went with the 16 hour braised lamb shanks, and true to the description, the meat fell off of the bone, and was very succulent and flavorful. Since she stole my choice of entree, I went with the shrimp and scallops, and for only getting 3 of each, they were plump, well seasoned, and went great with the risotto. We stayed late for cocktails, the wife going for an espresso martini that she really enjoyed, and me with my coconut and pineapple margarita, which had the flavor blast of a pina colada with a fraction of the sugary flavor. Needless to say, we were impressed enough to make this spot a staple for our...
