What a dilemma I have: excellent donuts and the RUDEST woman ever! Let me do this in story format: I try to make people smile by saying things that are obviously goofy. For example, I may order a large Coke and a small Diet Coke at the drive-thru, and then they give them to me, I ask, "Now, which one is the Coke?" Or, "I forgot my credit cards, do you take cash?" Goofy stuff, and all said with a smile on my face. 100% of the time, in my experience, it's appreciated.
Well, this morning, I went to this place with one of my sons. At the drive thru, I ordered a dozen glazed donuts and a dozen kolaches. The woman (obviously the rude one described in several reviews below) said, "regular kolaches?" In my attempt to make her smile, I said, with a smile on my face, "regular as opposed to irregular?" This was clearly a joke. She replied, "When I say 'good morning' to someone, it's always nice to hear 'good morning' in response." Since I had, indeed, wished her "good morning" to begin with, I was pleased to hear this. Well, I think I mistook her tone.
After she handed me the kolaches, she said, while walking away, "regular glazed donuts?" When she came back and handed them to me, I said, "these aren't the irregular ones, right?" Again, clearly a joke...and with a smile on my face. After I paid, she said - okay, literally yelled (I'm not joking) - something I've never heard any merchant say in my 58 years on earth: "You probably drove past a lot of donut shops on your way here. Next time, stop at one of them and I REALLY HOPE YOU DON'T COME BACK!!!"
At first, I thought she was kidding; after all, it was a nice day, I was obviously goofing around, and, well, why would any merchant tell a paying customer never to come back? But, the tone of her voice made it clear that she was not joking.
I must assume that, in being so rude (again, see the reviews below), she must be VERY rich and not need any more customers or money. So, being the nice guy that I am, I hereby grant her wish: I will never darken her drive-thru again, nor either of their other two locations. Nor will any of my six kids.
P.S. Speaking of my joke "I forgot my credit cards, do you take cash?" - it's true - this place does NOT take cash. Oh, and the drive-thru is very tight, there are new employees pretty much every time (gee, I can't imagine why....), and the prices are high. But, I have to admit, From now on, Donut Palace - which is right up the street and has good donuts AND VERY NICE employees - will...
Read moreThere is nothing generic about this donut store. They have the most unique, tasty, fluffy, cake like donuts I've ever found any where. You can find a generic strip mall donut every and any where. A donut is usually a lame donut. Kountry Donuts are really unique. You've got to go early because us locals in Grapevine know, Kountry Donuts sell out QUICK! And they are worth it! My kids are having a sleep over, I'm picking up Kountry Donuts. I bring breakfast to the office on Friday, I'm bringing Kountry Donuts. Why am I going to a strip mall donut place to get the same lame thing everyone else is selling? The bearclaws are INSANELY HUGE! If you are reading a review about this fantastic non-chain restaurant, mom and pop owned haven and they say 'oh, we didn't get a good selection of donuts' or 'they were out of everything but'. . . boo hoo. Show up before 8...
Read moreSo it's been awhile since my son and I have stopped by, we used to stop 3x's a week on the way to school, but since he graduated, we just don't. Well today I was beyond disappointed. I got my regular, eclair & strawberry iced glaze, my son got his sausage rolls and dozen donut holes with two large chocolate milks. My eclair bar was literally 1/2" wide and 6" long so absolutely NO room for the Bavarian cream. So not an eclair. The strawberry iced glazed was barely iced and on a cake donut. Again, not what I ordered. Oddly, the price was higher than what I would have paid at Shipley's down the street!? As they have been around since i was a kid, I want to support the small community business, but not with what happened today. I see why they aren't as busy as they once were. Will NOT...
