As a newcomer to the area, I've been on the hunt for a cozy coffee spot to frequent. RE:defined caught my eye due to its glowing reviews, and I decided to give it a try. The shop didn't disappoint in ambiance, aesthetic, or quality of the vanilla/lavender lattes, which were exceptional. The barista who prepared my drink did an excellent job as well.
However, my initial experience at the register was less than welcoming. The individual there, with short, curly grey hair, seemed indifferent to my questions, almost as if they expected me to be familiar with the drinks and food right away. Their facial expressions conveyed a sense of annoyance, making me feel like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. This interaction left me wondering if my LA Dodgers hat might have somehow influenced their demeanor (what else could I’d have been?).
Despite this, I chose to leave a tip, considering that everyone can have an off day. The quality of the coffee and the overall charm of the shop are undeniable, but a more welcoming approach from the staff, especially those greeting customers, could significantly enhance the experience. For now, I'll be exploring other local options, but I hope this feedback contributes to improving the welcoming atmosphere that is so crucial to a coffee...
Read moreVery modern and beautifully decorated coffee shop. They have a very good espresso machine - Strada. My favorite drink to get here is the Cortado - 4oz drink with a shot of espresso and a little foamed milk. It's strong and delicious. Wakes me up quick! They have regular milk, almond milk and oat milk. No soy or coconut. I also like to get regular lattes and matcha lattes here if I want a bigger drink. It's a great place to get some work done, relax, or have a team meeting. Lots of tables and lounge areas. About half the tables are desk height and great for getting work done. The other half are coffee table height with padded lounge seating. They have two separate rooms closed off by a wall of windows, where you can go to have a quieter or more private space. It's a big coffee shop, lots of space to spread out and not feel cramped. And good lighting from the many windows. It's in a great spot too. I pass it all the time on my way to other places so it's very convenient to stop by and get coffee. They have some parking spaces in front where you can pick up to-go orders or have your order brought right out to your car. I believe you have to order online for pickup. Or you can call for to-go once...
Read moreI visited after seeing the coffee flight online, which included a peppermint mocha latte, gingerbread latte, and apple cider paired with a gingerbread cookie, chocolate mint cookie, and a snickerdoodle cookie. While the presentation was appealing, the drinks were underwhelming. The peppermint mocha and apple cider were average, and I’ve had better elsewhere. Unfortunately, the gingerbread latte was disappointing.
I also ordered a hot chocolate for my child, and while I appreciated that it was served warm for kids, the taste was unpleasant—like cocoa powder had fallen into dishwater. My child wouldn’t drink it.
The customer service was average; the staff seemed tired or disengaged. My child was eager to have the mini cookies included with the flight, but I was told they couldn’t be purchased separately, which was disappointing.
As for the atmosphere, it seemed more suited for working than for socializing or a casual date. Overall, I’d recommend trying it once for the novelty of the coffee flight, but it’s not a place...
