If I could leave negative stars as my review, I would. Have been to Celtic countless times since moving to Great Falls two years ago and can honestly say we have never received what I would consider to be an acceptable level of service. It always takes forever to get your food, regardless of how many customers are in the restaurant, and the food is always sub par. But none of my previous negative experiences at Celtic even come close to comparing to the absolute nightmare / disaster that was my dear friend C's baby shower.
Despite arranging everything in advance (this was a contracted event for 18 people to be held downstairs in a private room) Celtic staff behaved as if we were inconveniencing them by ordering food and beverages. At one point, the manager tried to shame my friend C because the non-pregnant baby shower GUESTS were drinking alcoholic beverages. She told C that "We don't do that in Montana" and implied that the rest of us were lushes for wanting a mimosa or glass of wine at a celebratory social event. None of the food arrived on time—and that's not hyperbole, I mean literally none of it. The people who did get their food only got it after 45+ minutes of tracking down the waiter multiple times and reminding him not only of what we ordered but also of the fact that we ordered with him at all.
People got their food cold, got it late, got it completely wrong, and then got overcharged and/or double-charged for it. Still others were charged for drinks and food they never received. At one point my very pregnant friend, C, had to go upstairs and get a Pepsi from the bar because our waiter never brought down the one she ordered with him. Yet she was still charged for both drinks—with 20% gratuity included. And she wasn't the only person to whom this happened. Every single one of us paid a mandatory 20% gratuity for what was (and I think I speak for all of us at the shower when I say this) the poorest service we have ever received.
The icing on the cake was when the manager called my friend C after the event and informed her that several of the guests had left without paying their bills—which is inaccurate because everyone paid (we double and triple checked)—and that she would be "going over the security footage to see who really paid and who was lying." This last bit was particularly insulting because this group was comprised of adult women, veterans, healthcare professionals, and upstanding citizens of the community. So it was insulting that the manager felt the need to pore over security footage rather than take us at our word.
As a disclaimer,... before you start thinking I'm just some "Karen" power-tripping behind a keyboard, please know that it took an incredible level of unprofessionalism and ridiculousness to get me to the point of leaving such a negative review. I don't leave this review lightly and I've reread it multiple times before posting. It's just...the...
Read moreAs someone who literally has moved from Ireland to live in Montana, I want to love this place so much.
They have a great selection of drinks and a different menu that is a little hit and miss but largely decent.
I have been here multiple times and my last visit, again, just so underwhelming for reasons that I feel like shouldn't be hard to fix.
The service is so impossibly slow. It's like a running joke between friends that this is the only Irish pub that has no interest in serving you a drink. It takes 10 minutes regularly just to get served, like today, and then 10-15 minutes to get your drink. Almost half an hour every time from walking in to drink in hand is criminal for a bar/pub but especially and Irish one.
The food is hit or miss as mentioned. I've liked the stew in the past and had the fish n chips(which was tasty) and partner had pork sandwich this time, but the coleslaw is rank and not fresh on more than one occasion and the BBQ pork sandwich is I'm assuming sliced (not pulled) and blasted in the microwave with how dry and at the same time greasy it is.
I'd probably care less about the hit and miss food if the service was better. Whatever system they are using doesn't work and hasnt for years. 3 people behind the bar and 5 tables of two people and they are all just chatting behind the bar with no urgency or care to actually do the thing they are there to do.
There are other issues that I think would be nitpicking and unfair to a already pretty negative review.
Please address the slow service. This place could be so special if...
Read moreThis is for the restaurant (not sure why they/Google combined it w/ the hotel). Disappointing.... I was excited about eating at the restaurant after going through the menu. The ambiance is pretty awesome...great Irish/Cowboy decorations and music. the bar with a ton of taps looked awesome; we stayed here for few hours hanging. They had live music on Sunday which was cool. Now on to the food... Our top THREE choices of entrees were not available (bacon wrapped filet medallions, mixed seafood catch, and another) for dinner. the first 3 beers i wanted were out as well. The pork chop dish was pretty decent; fish/chips was mediocre. The waiter wasn't knowledgeable about what was part of the entrees either. For breakfast, they were out of irish porridge, hashbrowns, corned beef hash, and SALT/PEPPER! (she had to find some). My biscuits/gravy were literally cold when i got it. My sister ordered over easy eggs w/ her dish and she got scrambled instead.
This pub/restaurant has big potential, but the food failures were way too big to overcome...head elsewhere if you are staying in Arvon. I really wanted to buy a t-shirt or pint glass with the Celtic Cowboy branding of Vaughn, but they only had some weird other logo instead (looks like a soccer club logo). Super bummed at that too. You'd sell a ton of things if you used the primary logo instead of...
