This restaurant was recommended for a great steak.
It was a very unassuming place, but we never let that stop us. My son pointed out that the steak options were all listed at market price. Again, not usually an issue. Restaurants priced this way usually have fresh cuts and listed prices somewhere posted. Unfortunately, that was not the case here.
NY Strip was $36.99 a pound. This should have been an indication that something was a bit off, but alas, we continued.
I ordered a 24 oz King Ribeye. I still have no idea what the cost was...more on that later. I asked for medium well, closer to medium. The waitress said it might be hard to get that because of thickness but they can put it back on the grill if need be. My steak arrives and it is somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2" thick. I was very surprised. I've ordered 16 oz prime rib that has been much thicker and near the same size on a plate. After trying the steak, which was well done' it was definitely marinated and tenderized to a pulp. I couldn't pinpoint the flavor but it was either soy sauce or Worcestershire and incredibly salty.
The vegetable side of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots were obviously frozen and nearly all stems.
We had really hoped to love this place but their prices do not at all reflect the food they are serving.
Our bill for 4 with 2 having steak, one having Cajun chicken and one having a sandwich was...$131. When given the bill there was no indication of price. When the bill was taken to the front register nothing was broken down by price and only given a total. This is not at all the proper way to do business.
We will not return when we visit...
Read moreThe Butcher Block: A Delicious and Satisfying Meal The Butcher Block in Greeneville, Tennessee, is a must-try for anyone craving a delicious and generously portioned meal. My recent visit left me thoroughly impressed, particularly with their chopped sirloin and accompanying sides. I ordered the chopped sirloin, and it was a standout. The portion was incredibly generous, a true feast for the hungry diner. More importantly, it was cooked to absolute perfection. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. It's clear the kitchen knows how to handle their cuts of meat. To complement the sirloin, I also ordered the steak fries and the house salad with house dressing. Both were excellent additions to the meal. The steak fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned, while the house salad was fresh and the house dressing was a delightful complement. It's clear that The Butcher Block pays attention to the details, even with their sides. Beyond the food, the atmosphere at The Butcher Block is welcoming and comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The service was also friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Overall, my visit to The Butcher Block was fantastic. If you're in Greeneville and looking for a satisfying and delicious meal, especially if you're a fan of perfectly cooked steak, this is the place to go. I highly recommend the chopped sirloin and the house salad. I'll...
Read moreFirst of all, the sweet hostess has incredible work ethic. She was answering phones, taking take-out orders, seating customers, calling customers to let them know their table was ready, taking payments, and bussing tables. AND she did it all with a happy and upbeat attitude. As for the food, BEST steak I’ve ever had in my life. No joke. I got the Texas Tails and they were literally melting in my mouth. I’ve lived in Greeneville for 2 years now since getting married and I’m mad at my husband for not telling me about this place sooner lol. The prices are fair. You get a big Ball jar for your beverage so you never run out of your drink. I received my salad about 2 minutes after ordering. My other side was a baked potato and it was delicious. This is a hole in the wall, no frills type place, but it was the most satisfying meal I’ve had in months. They are doing it right here. I wish I had better photos, but I started eating before I remembered...
