The food here was not for me. Excess grease and oil made the food difficult to eat. The service was poor, which made me think whether this place was a restaurant or a fast food place with seats. I paid for the food, but before I could walk from the cashier to the back to sit a few steps away, I could hear our name being screamed so loudly across the place, by a nice looking lady named, Monae. Yes, i asked for her name to find out how the food was ready so fast, but i hesitated and walked away. the food for two people was all ready to be picked up. We looked with such surprise. As I approached the counter to pick it up, the food looked like it had been dumped on the plate like it was sitting in a bowl to be heated in the microwave for the next order. Before we could even start to put in our mouths, it was partially cold. We ordered the grilled chicken in anticipation of less oil, but we were mistaken. The Mac and cheese looked stilled, the corn bread wrapped in a foil, but cold, we ordered yam but received sweet potato. It was my first time eating at a Black American owned establishment, but what a disappointing experience. I was perplexed about the rating this place had acquired that led my friend to recommend it. I hate to say, but what a complete mess of a food it was. I tried the chicken tasted mac/cheese, and that was it. Worse of all, they spare no hesitation in considering the increased level of diabetes in black people by dumping excess sugar in the sweet tea. I urge you to run from the consumption of that sugar water. Run for your health, far away from that sweet tea. It's sugar in brown water! I tried it and threw the rest in the trash as we left the establishment. Relaxing music, though, but never again.

2 stars for mediocrity. 5 stars for taste but 1 star for customer service. Management really needs to figure out a better way of taking orders and fulfilling. 2 registers but only 1 is for eat in, the other for take out, so the eat in register got extremely backed up. Whoever is filling food orders has no sense of urgency. Multiple employees just standing around, taking their time… for $10/plate (not including the cost of a drink, which is $2-2.50), I’d expect more streamline service and better quality customer service. My husband was missing a side of Mac and cheese and when he asked for it/thanked the man who filled the order, the guy couldn’t even acknowledge my husband. No one was friendly to us AT ALL. Even after that, my husband decided to order some sides to take to work tomorrow. After waiting around for 25 minutes, including up at the front where orders are called out, we were asked to step aside by the staff. I asked for an update on our order - a simple purchase of 1 pinto bean, 1 Mac and cheese, and 1 corn bread - the cashier looked at the counter and said, “oh, here it is. Sorry.” Never once were we called for our order and have no idea how long it was waiting. Upon arriving home and my husband setting up his work lunch for tomorrow, we were sadly disappointed at how little a serving of pinto beans he was served that cost a whopping $3 for hardly 1/2 cup of beans, which ended up being almost 50% beans and 50% “gravy.” After driving 30 minutes to this location for delicious food, I think it is cancelled out by the service and quite frankly not worth our time or hard earned money.

Today I was in the area and I saw their food truck so I decided to stop by and see what their food was like. I’m not from the Greensboro area so it was something new to me. The atmosphere was lovely. I order the fish sandwich special with a side. The Mac and cheese was a 5 stars it was good, just wish it had a little more cheese in it. It seems like they gave a small portion of the Mac and cheese for the price. The strawberry lemonade was a 5 star. Now to the dish sandwich I was disappointed in it. I give that 2 stars. The reason is it wasn’t fresh and hot, it wasn’t crispy it was more soggy and rubberish. The bread was hard on the bottom and soggy (half and half). The fish wasn’t seasoned. I am use to going to places where the fish is fried when order verses being fried and waiting for someone to order fish. The fish had some of the fish shell still on it because when I took a small piece of the fish to try it a piece of shell was in it and I tried another piece on the other end of the fish the same thing. Hopefully it is shown on the pictures. My opinion it wasn’t worth the $10. But in the future have the workers cook the fish when order and season it and the side should be a nice portion not a sample. And whatever you doing with the lemonade keep it up!!

My wife and I were in town for the birth of our grandson and were spending the day at a local hospital. My son and daughter had eaten food from the restaurant and suggested we order from there so we took their advice. The online ordering process went pretty well. It would help new customers if their menu was more detailed such as explaining their broasted wings and telling what is available in the side meat order. When we arrived and entered the building, I was highly impressed with the atmosphere, setup, seating arrangements and the book store set up in the front of the restaurant. Everything looked new and classy with a great color scheme. We noticed some slices of cake which looked delicious so I ordered 2 pieces of strawberry shortcake from the young man operating the cash register which left only 2 more pieces in the store. He took them out of the display/cooler and placed them on top of the counter The food we ordered was ready in just a few minutes after we arrived which I found to be very satisfying. My son took care of paying for and obtaining our food while I waited in line to pay for the cake and some of their bottled sauces. When I got to the register, one of the pieces of cake was missing. The young man spoke to another employee and learned that guy had taken the cake off the counter and sold it to another customer. This guy apologized and said he had already let the cake leave and it was nothing he could do anout it. It was about 30 minutes before closing when we got our food but another customer wanted to eat in but wasn't allowed to do so because one of the employees said it was too close to closing time to eat in. Ironically, there were about 30 people eating in at the time. We left there and went straight back to the hospital. When I opened the chicken dinner and side order of wings, I discovered they failed to give me the 2 sauces I had requsted and the food was not hot. I also discovered that one plate was missing cornbread as required, paid for and requested. We also realized we were not given any eating utensils or napkins. By the time this transpired, the restaurant was closed. Overall, the food was pretty good! We may return to try this place again, but it will not be takeout. We'll eat in so we can address any problems...

I visited Benz Boyz today to get "premium" comfort food for my husband who was home sick. I was unfortunately very disappointed with the food quality. I decided to order the 4 vegetable plate because I figured that couldn't be hard to get right. I chose the mac and cheese, which is the ultimate in comfort food, cabbage, collard greens, potato salad, corn bread and an additional side of yams. After ordering at the register, I walked down to the pick up counter and saw that they had premade plates of food prepared and sitting under a warmer uncovered. That really concerned me. I saw the server get my potato salad from a pan on the counter that was also uncovered instead of being chilled in a cooler. Also very concerning. Then it was placed in the plate with the other warm food rather than in a separate container.

Before leaving I checked my order and saw that the Mac and Cheese noodles were plain, separated with globs of greasy cheddar cheese mixed about. It was not creamy or cheesy. I thought I may have gotten a batch that was under those warmers I saw so I asked for a "fresh" one before leaving. The manager told me I can give you another side but it will look exactly the same and it did because she got it from the same pan the first serving came from. Smh!

Once I got it home I decided to taste the food with my husband, and was glad I didn't get another plate for myself. I immediately recognized the taste of Bruce's canned yams I grew up on that were whipped without a hint of seasoning and sweetened with corn syrup. The collards had more stems than leaves and were seasoned with sugar. The cabbage and potato salad were unfortunately seasoned the same way.

I am a former customer of Sidwells restaurant in Jamestown so the menu and quality is disappointedly familiar. I hoped that with a "premium" location would come "premium" food but they are serving the same mediocre food, at best. I am afraid if they don't step up their quality they will go down in history as another closed restaurant that didn't make the Greensboro grade. I wouldn't give them another $10 of my hard earned money but I wish them...

Atmosphere, outstanding. As an African American, you definitely feel the soul. The music is on point. When you first enter, there is a library which highlights black authors as well as different merchandise that can be bought that highlight black culture. Photos everywhere that also highlight black culture and different places around Greensboro such as a great painting of the drum line of A&T. Today was my second time dining and this night was by far the worst. I did not make a big deal about it but the service was definitely different. My food was very bland. There needs to be another chef asap. I know this because about a year ago I heard about how bland the food was in the elevator at my job. I rolled my eyes and ignored the comment to find out months later that the food is actually bland. It looks good, yes, but the flavor is not there. On each occasion I have felt this today but tonight just reassured my thought.

I had the salmon with yams and Mac and cheese. The salmon….looked good. It was perfectly dry and I think the glaze was similar to an Italian salad dressing. Definitely a no. The macaroni and cheese, again, looked good…but had no flavor. The yams were okay! The service wasn’t good. I think there were some teens training, but the manager was yelling at them. Loud, teaching moment? Excellent! The manager returned back to the front desk to continue the conversation that she was having with the woman that took my order. They continued having their conversation after the woman told me my told. Never letting me know my order number, looking me in my face after speaking to me, or telling me my change. Making it clear that their conversation was more important than the immensely vague and meaningless “hey, what kind I help you with?” Welcome that came after I stopped their conversation during my entering. I was so confused by our non conversation, that I did not know if she placed it for here or to go. Luckily, it was for to go. I guess she assumed. Food took about 11 minutes. I appreciate you all for feeding me though. The service just could be better is all....
