I don't know anything about "authentic" Chinese food, but I can definitely believe this fits that description. The menu is written in both Chinese and English, and the items are not what you'd see on a typical American Chinese menu.
I'll caution vegetarians that there are VERY few vegetarian options, and the "Vegetables" menu items often have pork in them, so be sure to ask your server to make your dish vegetarian. They were happy to accommodate this, and they even reduced the price by 10% since they'd left out the meat.
After sitting down and reading the menu (duck gizzards, pork bungs, chicken feet), I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. I stuck with it, trusting my foodie friend, and I'm glad I did.
The food is delicious. The radish and garlic salad doesn't sound like much, but wow! The flavors are delightfully sharp and complex. The egg and tomato dish was very tasty too. The mapo tofu was spicy and complex and totally unique to my palate. My friends took great pleasure in their sliced fish in black bean sauce and their green beans with pork.
A very casual atmosphere, with plastic folding tables and action figures all around. (?) My friend says they always play great music. While we were there it was Pink Floyd.
Apparently they're still waiting on their inspection for the license to sell alcohol (and have been for a year!!), so I hope they get that soon.
As a vegetarian, I probably won't return all that often, but I'd definitely recommend it to meat-eaters, especially those looking for something you won't usually see...
Read moreThey have fully reopened and I am glad, I usually will eat here and do my grocery shopping at Trader Joes and get a Crumbl cookie for dessert.
The restaurant looks small from the outside but they have a good amount of seating on the inside and it is quite spacious. I went on a Saturday night and they had 2 large parties of 8+ people, so they can accommodate the size of larger parties.
It is run by a really sweet family and their boys, they are really hardworking and do their best. The lo mein is really good and the spicy soups are flavorful if you want something with a punch. Even their veggie options are good like the homestyle tofu. It is soft on the inside, perfect texture on the outside and nice a flavorful with carrot, broccoli, snow peas, onions. The orange chicken has a good orange-y zest and the portions are larger so it usually becomes leftovers. If you are sharing, then you can get multiple dishes and share different flavors.
What was interesting is that the menu has regional selections and is just not 1 typical type of chinese menu. You can really try some really interesting dishes here that a typical Chinese take out place would not have.
I come here at least a few times a month. They are constantly getting phone and delivery orders along with all of the dine in guests during busy times...
Read moreTake it from someone who's lived in China for 7 years that it doesn't get any realer than this. After being home for 3 years since 2020, I got very determined to find somewhere in Greensboro that was close to authentic. A random Reddit post sent me here and it did not disappoint.
The interior is very reminiscent of a mainland restaurant from the Alipay sticker on the door, the till arrangement at the front, and the little drinks cooler near the entrance. The staff are always friendly and willing to humor me trying to keep the rust off my Mandarin.
So far I have stuck to noodles since I usually come here for lunch. I alternate between the Chongqing beef noodles and dandan noodles, and have also tried their pai huang gua (smashed cucumber in garlic and chili sauce). It's all completely authentic, right down to the heat. They do not tone down the spice for the American palate, which is exactly what I wanted. You'll leave this place with clear sinuses, guaranteed. But the spiciness doesn't overpower the flavor. The beef is so tender in the Chongqing noodles, and the noodles themselves seem to be freshly made. The pai huang gua literally almost made me cry because I never thought I'd be eating it again so soon.
These are easily the best noodles in Greensboro — my...
