Stumble Stilskins — Restaurant in Greensboro

I stopped in today in the late afternoon. There was someone leaving with a bag of food and asked if they had been there before, and the woman praised the establishment, though did say that sometimes food was a little slow coming out of the kitchen, depending on how busy they were. Duly noted. In I went!

The main bar area was almost completely empty. The place has a dark, cozy feel. That comfortable neighborhood bar feel. Not the commercialized kind you find at a chain, the classic sense of one. I can't explain it better than that.

They have four TVs up behind the bar, most were showing sports related content, one had on a made-for-TV movie that made me think it might have been the Hallmark channel? I'm not a sports guy, so I spent most of my meal either looking at the smaller screen which was scrolling pictures from their Halloween party, or reading the Captions on the TV movie.

The Halloween party scroller adds to that sense that this is a friendly neighborhood staple, and the staff here take pride in being part of the community.

For being a smaller bar, they have done a nice job at curating their spirits list. They have some of the typical "well" brands, a couple of common middle-shelf items, and a few surprises on there that were also priced lower than I'd found at other places. Even more surprising is that some of them were still in stock!

The bartender (Kat) was very efficient and welcoming, she gave me her feedback on her favorites from the menu. When two other gentlemen came in and seated not far from me, she asked them if they were going to be getting lunch, so she could put their orders in ahead of the orders of a large party in an adjacent room. I thought this was pretty thoughtful of her, as the large party was likely in no hurry, but these two guys were in suits and might have needed to watch the clock.

I had the Rueben, with onion rings, and I also ordered a side of cheese curds. The sandwich was excellent for the price point. Next time I might ask what the upcharge is to get extra meat. No complaints on the value as it stood. The onion rings were very good. I meant to ask if they make them or get them in frozen, but I forgot. They came with a side of a tangy, slightly spicy (Jalepeno?) sauce. At first I thought it was extra Thousand Island dressing by the color, but it was closer to "Bang Bang" sauce (typically found with a shrimp dish at other places).

The cheese curds were... okay. They were fried a little too long, so many of them started to explode, clumping together, and the breading burned in places. They came with an herbed aoli that was pretty good. I think that might go much better with fries or maybe even on a burger.

They have some neat sounding twists on their burgers, and have monthly burger specials. Next time I go, I will probably try one of...

I was recommended to come here by a friend. They kept raving about this place and I must say it did not disappoint even with some minor hiccups. I will definitely come back to try more options. I came with two friends and when you walk in. The atmosphere is enticing, good music loud but you can still talk. You seat yourself, and because we came after 9pm you order at the bar. The staff was friendly on a busy Friday night with good and attentive service. Now the food I myself kept it simple with there stumbles smash burger(there version of a big mac) with fries and a water. One friend had the shrimp basket and we were surprised it came with a side, so she chose the sweet potato fries. And her entree was the gouda burger with a salad and a drink. Now my friend who recommended here, fot an app he got the chicken tenders with sweet potato fries and for entree he ordered the chicken philly with a salad and a peach mango drink of some sort. My food came first and there could have been more fries as I noticed others in the place who had burger meals had alot more fries. However the fries I did have were seasoned well and flavorful. My burger tasted really good and I was impressed. My friend enjoyed her shrimp and fries, her burger she was happy about, with a good fresh tasting salad. Now my friend who has been here before said the chicken tenders should give more than 2 pieces however he said it was flavorful, juicy and did not even need sauce and that's how you know something is good. He really enjoyed his chicken philly & salad. Felt the salad portion was a good amount & once again was happy with his meal. I can say once again I will try here again. They had different sports playing such as basketball & wrestling which is a nice touch and good music throughout our time. I can't to try...

After a long drive from Florida, my family and I stopped in Greensboro and decided to grab some wings and fries to take back to our hotel. We placed a takeout order totaling about $130 (with tip). We ordered three 12-piece wings, one 6-piece, and two sides of fries.

Unfortunately, this turned out to be a huge mistake.

Once we got back to the hotel, three out of the four of us started eating. Near the end of the meal, I went to eat my second wing, and my daughter took a bite of hers, only to discover a long, thin brown hair in the food. For context: my hair is jet black and thick, so this was definitely not ours. We were immediately disgusted.

Wanting to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, I decided to return and request a refund for just the one portion that contained the hair not the full order, just the contaminated part. There was no parking nearby, so I sent my daughter inside to speak with someone and bring the receipt.

What happened next was even worse than the hair in the food.

The same woman who had answered the phone earlier (and was extremely rude and dismissive even then) proceeded to berate my daughter. She questioned why we didn’t bring the hair with us as if people travel with pieces of hair on purpose? She spoke loudly and aggressively, and as my daughter stepped out to retrieve the receipt, she could hear the woman mocking and discussing us with the bouncer.

To be clear: we had no reason to lie. We didn’t demand a full refund. We simply wanted to be treated with some decency and accountability. Instead, we were met with unprofessionalism, unsanitary food, and hostility.

I’ll never return, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values clean food and respectful customer service. Absolutely...
