Waffle House — Restaurant in Greensboro

I have eaten a WH a lot of times in my 66 years of the 3rd rock from the sun. Always pleased with the service but, not this time. Based on the current reviews, this WH will not be in business very long. My brother and I went there at around 7:15 am 04/05/2023. Went in a took a seat, no typically greeting by the staff "Welcome to Waffle House". Ok, so no big deal. We take a seat, 10 minutes pass and no one has even come by to take drink orders. Waitress caring gallon of syrup eventually walks by and glances at us but continues on. Not a peap, not even a smile. She fills up a few table syrup bottles. She then walks back by and stands at the far end of the counter away from us. 10 minutes later, still no one has approached us for drink orders, much less food.

We got up and left. Oh, I forgot to mention besides my brother and me, there was only one other table of patrons who were setting at the far end where the waitress returned to after filling the syrup bottles. Also, the two cooks who just happen to be standing next to us, never acknowledge our presents either.

The food was good but the service was terrible; it’s hit and miss with service. For breakfast (Sunday morning) There were 7 employees on floor, and 12 tables to manage (2-3 tables per waiter) and 2 were cooks, my waiter had 2-3 tables to serve. She forgot our silverware one our drinks, only one coffee refill. When she brought the food she placed the plate on our table and left, she didn’t ask if we wanted any condiments or silverware so asked another waiter, and our waiter saw it and looked agitated. She didn’t apologize and asked if there was anything else we needed. We had to flag her down too to get our 2nd drink, and she only had 2 tables to serve at this time. When I went to cash out, she was socializing on the other end of room, so another waiter checked us out. But she showed up just in time to grab the receipt as it was printing-out ( to the small tip) and looked at in front of me and my partner and her coworker — she mumbled “I need a better paying job”. I thought to myself, you need to learn how to do a job well enough before you expect a tip or better wages, but serving food is not one of them. But this probably the last time I am...

First of all, the service from the wait staff was excellent. Friendly, attentive, got us everything we asked for.

The food was fine. Toast was a little burnt and the waffle wasn’t crisp at all. But overall, a fine showing.

What left a bad taste in our mouths, though, was the manager. I think his name was Steven. His version of “banter” with the staff made me cringe so hard I almost fell out of my seat. He compared one server to “a disobedient dog” when she played a song on her phone and “playfully” threatened to fire another for what he apparently thinks is her annoying laugh.
