I have written hundreds of reviews and take it seriously; I hope you find my review helpful.
I used to love going to PF Changs. I have to admit, I only go about once a year now. Last night was my first visit in at least 12 months and my first visit to this location after recently moving to Greenville.
My welcome was unenthusiastic. I walked in around 8:30 pm on a Saturday night. The young woman working the hostess stand looked up at me like I interrupted her social media browsing and asked me in a monotone-could-care-less voice: “can I help you?” 🤦🏻♂️ I replied, “I’m hungry.”
She wanted to seat me at a table and I asked if one of the booths empty was available (some 10-15 feet away) to which she replied “they are out of the service area.” I politely asked her to please ask someone if I may be seated at a booth. I counted at least 5 available not counting the dirty ones un-bussed, which were about 5 more. She said in her monotone voice: “We have to go back to the front.” After a minute or two, I was seated at a booth.
My Server was excellent. Her name was Kehrstin. No complaints with her and only appreciation for her easy approachable style, her positive energy and her sincere professional service. Thank you, Kehrstin. I was disappointed to find that their eggplant dish had been removed. I suggested that they keep it as a secret menu item since they would only require the eggplants to make it as all the other ingredients for that dish are still in use. But I digress. My pork dumplings were very tasty. My Ma Po Tofu dish was absolutely to die for, delicious. (Thanks for the recommendation, Kehrstin!)
Heres my other rub: they served my main course just 5 miutes after my appetizer which was also after just finishing my first dumpling as I was reading emails. I wish they wouldn’t rush the main. The restaurants was less than half full and still 2 hours from close. I would have appreciated my main to arrive later. The Server who brought the food told me the 2 sides of the kitchen don’t communicate with each other. Sounds like an easy fix if I were reading this and a manager.
I will be back as my Server was indeed excellent and my food was, after all delicious. They just need a little help in...
Read moreP.F. Chang's has historically been our favorite place to have a meal outside of our home. For our 29th anniversary, it was an obvious choice.
The restaurant had only 3-4 tables occupied when we arrived and we were promptly seated. Our server came quickly enough and we ordered our drinks (2 waters, no lemon) and the Kung Pau brussels as an appetizer. When she returned with our waters (with lemon on the side), we informed her we'd like to also get the vegetarian lettuce wraps.
Momentarily she returned with the news that there were no vegetarian lettuce wraps prepped so they were unavailable. We joked about how the chef was making her be the bearer of bad news and waited for our previously ordered food.
When the sprouts came, they were more blackened than just cooked, as there were many "leaves" from the sprouts that had seared in the pan. My wife's favorite for quite some time, her response was, "If this was what they were like the first time I ordered them, I would have never gotten them again." They're usually delicious.
When our meals came, the portions were smaller than they'd ever been and the tofu wasn't cooked as usual... it was more chewy, less 'meaty. The broccoli was the only item that resembled what it was like in all of our previous visits, but the volume was about half.
I chose to upgrade to the fried rice as it was the closest thing to what I had eaten in Macau 30 years ago than I've ever had. It was virtually tasteless.
We were both very disappointed in our visit, but recognize that tomorrow is another day.
We didn't complain and perhaps we should have but this seemed like it was just normal business practice now and since we don't eat out that often, we just don't like to make waves.
Everyone was friendly enough. Had a manager come by the table and asked, I would have likely said something as it wasn't our...
Read moreHave dined here off and on after work for many years now, (usually much later in the evenings) and always sitting at the bar. The food quality is consistent and the selections delicious.
Tonight, however, I experienced a rare and welcomed time with one of the kindest, most professional bar tender/servers I've ever encountered there.
"Skylar" our server was, without question, among the nicest I've ever experienced here. She was immediately welcoming, smiling, made eye contact, was patient, kind, attentive, professional, warm, friendly, non-intrusive and on top of her game all the way. From drinks to appetizers (Spring Rolls), main courses (BBQ Ribs, Shrimp with Lobster sauce and Chicken with broccoli) and the check, all on point.
She was, in short, excellent. I don't usually write restaurant reviews anymore, (few care anymore) but she definitely deserves recognition, praise and gratitude. Skylar could just as easily work at a five-star establishment with her wonderfully kind natural skill, reserved warmth and caring attitude. My wife and I were not just another "two top" to her. We were guests and treated fabulously.
Dining out nightly at a plethora of different venues in Greenville, one can often experience bad attitudes, less than desirable demeanors and generally average to poor service. Most are looking at their watches. "Skylar" was none of these. She was truly super and absolutely a cut above the typical experience. She deserves to be highly commended by her management team, her area management and corporate.
Thank you, Skylar, for making our evening with your...
