The only way to get good seats at the Comedy Works is to eat at Lucy's. After ending up at the back several times in a row (Even though we were in the first 10 in line.) I bit the bullet and made a reservation at Lucy's so that we'd get good seats for John Heffron. A message to both the Comedy Works and Lucy's - if you're going to create a system that requires people to buy 3 times - (Show tickets, dinner and 2 drinks for the show, total over $150) you better create a superior experience. Sadly it was not.
My GF had two appetizers, the pot stickers (which have had good reviews) and the bruschetta. I'd bet a steak dinner (not at Lucy's!) that the pot stickers were frozen, and/or had been sitting awhile. They were hard and crunchy on the shell and the filling was pasty and without flavor. The bruschetta toast also tasted as if it had been sitting - hard and a bit stale. The topping of tomato, onion, cilantro, etc was totally overpowered by days old, VERY sharp onion. Yuch.
I had the fish and chips and was assured by our very nice and helpful waitress that it was good and authentic. First - mahi-mahi is not a good fish for fish and chips. It is too tough and gamey. Cod or halibut are traditional for good reason. The fish should be buttery soft and glistening. The beer batter coating WAS good and crispy. The fries also tasted a bit stale as though they had been sitting around. The guys across the street (Slattery's) does it better. Lucy's IS pretty and with a well lit, cool atmosphere.
Heffron slayed it, as always. But Comedy Works South and Lucy's have put their patrons in a bad spot. If you want a good seat, you have to put up with below average food and spend a LOT more than you might want. OR - you end up in the cheap seats. We were 3rd in line for Josh Blue and ended up in the balcony on the very end of the row!
I know Comedy Works has always lined up patrons at the door - I was going to the downtown location in the 70's! But this is 2018, and tickets for headliners aren't $10 any more either. Why can't you have a reserve seating system like every other venue in town? First come first served, and Lucy's has to stand on...
Read moreMy son's wedding rehearsal dinner was held at this location on October 25, 2019 and the service was incredibly poor and extremely slow. The room was booked for 30+ people and although we were introduced to two servers, not enough for 30 people, as our designated wait staff, these poor servers were also waiting on tables outside of the private event therefore drink orders were extremely slow to the point of guest having to go fetch their own drinks at the bar, appetizers didn't come out timely and weren't enough to feed tables of 8 people each. I had ordered two rounds per table and only 1 round was served. Although they made good and gave us another round, free of charge, the damage was done. While the main entrees were good, many guest complained that by the time their food finally arrived, it was cold but since it took so long to get apps served, and drinks delivered, no one sent back their plates back for fear they'd never get fed before the event ended. I complained several times to not only the wait staff, but also to the restaurant manager who basically did nothing to assist. The restaurant for private events is poorly managed and while the wait staff did what they could, due to the poor management and scheduling of staff, they were between a rock and a hard place. I would definitely not recommend this location for a private event in the future. I don't often write reviews but I really felt inclined to do so with this experience. A shout out to the servers who again did their very best to deal with an extremely poorly managed event; Adam, Kevin and Hanna. Thank you for...
Read moreA friend and I tried this place out for breakfast this morning after a coworker ranted and raved about it. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but that's about all that's good about it.
It took about 15 minutes for our server to come take our drink order when we sat down. Not a problem if we weren't one of only four tables in the whole restaurant. Whatever. It is what it is. We were enjoying a nice conversation, so we weren't needing to be rushed.
The biggest reason I'm leaving a bad review is because I got their B.e.L.T. breakfast sandwich and fruit on the side. None of the fruit was ripe, so it was like chewing on rubber, but my sandwich was missing the bacon, tomato, and avocado (it is an untraditional BLT). It was barely room temperature as well. I was going to just ask for the missing items on the side so I could keep eating. That proved to be completely impossible because our waiter didn't come back, or was seen anywhere, for nearly 45 minutes. By the time he came to ask if we needed to go boxes, that's when I was finally able to tell him about my food. Incredulous, he requested I dismantle my sandwich and show him proof of my claim. He then offered to have another one made, but by that time, we did need to leave, so I asked if he could just remove it from the ticket. Had he come over sooner, or if any staff member at all been present, then this wouldn't be a big deal.
Huge waste of time. Mediocre food. Hassle to park and get to. Save your money and go to Snooze or Bacon...
